Mac OS X Installation Disc 2 Will Not Load

I've had to wipe my system clean and re-install Mac OS X using the installation discs that came with my system. The installation makes it through the first disc without problems. When prompted to insert the second disc, I put the disc in the drive and it sounds like the drive is trying to read it but the disc is ejected after awhile leaving the same prompt window. I've tried to boot up in safe mode but my system reverts back to the same prompt saying to insert the second disc, which i do with the same result. Any idea on how I can bypass this and maybe start the installation process over again?

HI,

From what you are describing, there could be a problem with the startup disk. Boot from your install disc. Run the Disk Utility app to verify and if necessary, repair any errors.

Insert your install disk (1) and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)

Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart

While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*

Carolyn, thank you for your reply. I completed repair disc and there were no errors found. I started the installation over again with the same result. The installation goes fine through the first disc but when prompted to insert the second disc my computer tries to read it and keeps ejecting it. No matter how many times I insert the second installation disc it keeps ejecting it. Is it possible that I just have a bad OS X installation disc?
