Recently after about 6 months of buying my i mac 27" I am experiencing problems with my display. I can see black spots on the monitor. at first I thought it was dust. I removed the magnetic glass and wiped the screen but the problem didn't go away. Can anybody HELP please?
I just bought mine this August 29, 2010. Very noticeable. It seem to be dark smudges on both sides of the screen (Left and Right). I think its on the back of the LCD screen not on the glass...
I also have just come across this. I have a September purchased new 27 inch iMac, I actually didn't notice until I changed the background to pure white (or any other solid color really). Before, when one of the images were used, you can't tell. I'm wondering how long it's been there. At first, I thought it was fingerprint smudges or something, but then I cleaned the entire screen with my iKlean product, and it still remains.
I took a screenshot, and viewed that screen on my macbook pro, but no spots. So has to be the display right? Should I take it to Apple? How long would they take to replace/repair?
Having the same issues on my iMac purchased in August. After searching several forms, this seems to be a common issue and continues after lcd is replaced. Anyone have this issue after the lcd was replaced?
Anyone have this issue after the lcd was replaced? Indeed I've had both LCD/fan and computer replacements only to have it return again and again over time. It's probably worse now than ever but i have chosen not to address it presently because (A) It just feels futile and I have better things to do and (B) I am pretty sure someone from Apple will try to scapegoat the grey-dirty smudging onto my environment because of the redundancy over multiple screens and computers (yes:3). On an intellectual plane I understand the accusation but redundantly odd/anomalous/incredible or not it is not the environment, i.e., there are no overt hazards like smoking, cooking locally, or ventilation problems existing. Sheesh! d
Thanks Dennis, I think I will ask for a full refund after researching so many forums, etc.. I had a 'genius' friend tell me just how many people get denied on warranty coverage the past few months...
I've been going through this same problem on my 21.5" iMac purchased in January 10. I'm on my 3rd replacement screen, and i just realized it's happening again a few weeks having getting the latest replacement. First time, the dark spots were very heavy in the top left quadrant. I took it to an apple store, they replaced the LCD. It came back fine, but the DVD drive was broken. Took it back in for that, got it back with the dark areas again just no where as bad. Had a technician come fix it again and replaced the LCD. Now a few weeks later, the symptoms are coming back.
I started thinking that this computer was faulty, and that another issue keeps causing this. Now I see a lot of people are having this problem. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now, I've lost faith in Applecare getting it fixed this 4th time. I guess I'll just have to give Applecare another call.
I purchased a refurbished iMac 27", Intel Core i5 directly from Apple's website in April, 2010. I absolutely love the computer, but I've begun noticing many vertical dark spots on my display. They are obvious upon startup and whenever I'm viewing a white/lighter colored screen. I have an extended 3 year warranty. I plan on addressing the problem for fear that it may possibly get worse or lead to other problems. I believe there's a good chance this computer was returned and refurbished for this problem in the first place, but that's just a guess. Will I need to take this in to a store, or will Apple send me a box to use to mail it back to them? I still love my iMac, but I paid too much to have this kind of a problem so soon. Good luck guys.
Good luck. I have had screen and computer replacements via affable Applecare customer service reps only to have the dirt/grey/smudge stains return like a refractory virus with no environmental justification. Obviously I will be calling again- there were Applecare implications in the past that it was "environmental". I'm anticipating a renewed defensive "environmental" allegation. This anticipation has left me pessimistic enough to procrastinate calling them.
The exact problem has affected my iMac 27", bought in the UK last August. I have took it back to Apple and have been without the computer for a week up to now. Apparently they have replaced the screen and logic board, but the computer would not power up after the repair So I have to wait for them to order a new fan and power supply. What a joke.
