Dec 23, 2010 7:36 PM in response to ediblecrayonby bakerdal,BTW, the symptoms with Windows 7 is you can see the other library. You click on it, it highlights in the left panel. The candy bar spins for about 30 seconds and then the highlighted item move to the top item in the left panel which is Library --> Music (Your library) and it quits. Weird. Guess they don't do a lot of regression testing before publishing their upgrades. And they don't have a "Report a problem with this software" item in their help either do they??? -
Dec 24, 2010 9:21 AM in response to puzzoby 00r/t,Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'm running the same setup. My wireless Apple TV, iPhone, and PC could all access the library on my MBP. Nothing could access the library on my Windows 7 PC, however. I connected my MBP to the RT-N16 via Cat5 and saw the library fine, confirming it was in fact the new router. I am running Tomato firmware on the router, and found that multicast is disabled by default. Bonjour needs multicast, so I enabled it and everything is working flawlessly. I can't recall if there are any mutlicast options in the stock firmware, but an upgrade to Tomato should fix your problem if you're out of ideas. -

Dec 25, 2010 2:24 PM in response to ediblecrayonby Nikikins,Hey everyone..just wanted to share something with you that I did. When I enabled the home sharing, I did NOT click the "Done" button and my home sharing folders stayed put and didn't hide and I was able to share apps and music without problem. This may not work for all of you but just thought I'd share. Merry Christmas! -
Dec 26, 2010 6:29 PM in response to NJN1by J Lo14385,I tried to do what you said, but now my Sharing menu is totally gone. At least before it was there, I just wasn't able to connect to my sisters music! =( -
Dec 28, 2010 4:41 PM in response to yyzgwmby mairob,This worked for me too...
I fixed this! -- thanks to Merhej's post. I went to iTunes Edit>Preferences>Sharing, and discovered that Bonjour (I'd never heard of this thing) was disabled. I then went to Start>Control Panel>Add or remove progams>Bonjour>Support information>Repair. I then rebooted. Same for the other computer. After the reboot, they were sharing again. -

Jan 23, 2011 7:12 PM in response to ediblecrayonby HFoltz,I was having the same problem everyone is mentioning- and I'm not very computer literate! I figured out what I was doing wrong- not sure if this is what is going on for others, but wanted to share just in case.
When I'd attempt to login with the account and password for homesharing, I was using a different one on each computer- it has to be the same- you have to choose one of the iTunes accounts and login under that one on both/all computers. Hope that helps! -
Jan 23, 2011 10:37 PM in response to Nikole2774by jerryandveva,Thank you for your advice about the router. I did everything else in the book but did not restart the router, D-Link dir-655 router. It was new and only had been in use for a month. I unplugged the router for 20 seconds. Apple TV started working immediately after plugging the router back in. -
Feb 7, 2011 9:17 AM in response to ediblecrayonby techboy776,Fixed the problem in Windows 7 by going to Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Services. Locate Bonjour and restart the service, fixed the problem immediately. -
Feb 8, 2011 2:48 PM in response to sydneygerbby Ferwizard,Thanks! This was driving me crazy, I have an internet router provided by my cable company and an apple extreme airport, one computer was connected via the router and the other via the airport extrem, once i put them on the same network both computers' home sharing sync'd perfectly. -
Feb 12, 2011 4:30 PM in response to ediblecrayonby Grand42,I just posted this for a similar thread and thought I'd add it here for those that were not just having Bonjour issues. I tried repairing and reinstalling Bonjour with no luck and then went back to basics.
In iTunes 9 I had Home Sharing working then I upgraded to iTunes 10 and it didn't work. I'm home sharing between a Mac and a Windows 7 laptop, below is what worked for me to get it working again:
1) In the iTunes > Advanced menu "Turn Off Home Sharing" in each iTunes. (I closed both iTunes down and then reopened them, but you probably don't have to.)
2) Then in the Preferences > Sharing Tab in both iTunes I unchecked "Share my library on my local network". (There is a difference between sharing locally via preferences menu and home sharing via advanced menu, sharing locally allows streaming from your library of whatever you choose to share and Home Sharing is full or at least a lot more access and options)
3) Again I shut down both iTunes and then opened them back up. I then went to the Advanced menu and selected "Turn On Home Sharing" which brought up the home sharing screen in iTunes asking me to login with my iTunes account then I did the same in the Windows iTunes and again I was prompted to login. (I logged in with the same account on both, and had already authorized each computer)
Presto, I could now see both libraries with the little music house and could do all the great home sharing things.
One other note, on my Windows laptop that has McAffee Security Center I had to not only open TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 but I had to open them to All PCs, not just PCs in my home or local network. Even though both laptops are on the same home network I think it has something to do with the use of Bonjour for home sharing and my Mac's Bonjour IP Address is not an IP in my home network range. (I was playing with Bonjour Browser and noticed this) I'm not really sure, I just know this was the only way I could ever see my Windows iTunes library in my Mac's iTunes. -

Mar 1, 2011 2:56 PM in response to ediblecrayonby mattkrol,I was having the same problems as many others, as I was trying to get home sharing seen on my PC, and also my Mac. The home sharing icon just kept disappearing on Itunes.
I was trying to do all this wirelessly, and since that didn't work, I hooked my laptop Mac straight to my modem through an ethernet cable. As soon as I did that, the home sharing worked. It was as if the two had to read eachother first, and that couldn't be done wirelessly. Now, whenever I unplug and go wireless, the home sharing works. -
