Lexar Jump Drive is not recognized

A friend sent me a Lexar 64GB jump drive with videos on it. When I try to add video files to the jump drive and I get a message from the Finder that "The item could not be moved because "Lexar" cannot be modified. When I try and remove the video files on the jump drive to the Trash I am told "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (Error code-61).

The Lexar jump drive is formated in NTFS. I have tried to transfer Word documents as well and I still get the same message that the Lexar cannot be modified.

Any help would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro 5,1, Mac OS X (10.5.7), 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo

Hi Jim,

that sounds odd.
Have you checked whether the USB-Stick is using MBR (Master Boot Record) as partition scheme ?

it may be totally unrelated but did the Lexar come with any encryption software ? according to this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12310623#12310623, the software could have installed a driver on your Mac that could adversitly affect it.

Hi,

Mac OSX can only read from NTFS drives but not write to them.

For that you would need a third-party file system driver for NTFS like the NTFS-3G or the commercial Paragon NTFS for Mac or Tuxera NTFS for Mac.

With FAT32 drives, Mac OSX can read and write from/to them. But FAT32 has a built-in single-file size limitation of 4GB.

Thanks Stefan. I have Paragon NTFS for the Mac, and it is activated, but when I choose NTFS Preferences, the external hard drive is not recognized. Again, the Lexar is NTFS formatted.

Hi Stefan,

Issue resolved. I ungraded the NTFS software and it recognized the Lexar and I am now able to write to it. thanks for your help with this.
