Problem unmounting volumes

Good day!

I have a problem with unmounting volumes. It seems that almost every or even every volume mounted (I've tried with .dmg and .iso) can't be unmounted — Finder says "The disk blah-blah wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it" and if I click Force Eject button, it says that the disk was ejected — but it remains where it were before, nothing changes. I tried to use Disk Utility, but it says that eject failed, and the disk could not be unmounted. Force Eject Mounted Volumes script wasn't helpful also.
In addition, when I insert a blank DVD, it stucks in Finder's sidebar even after I eject the physical disk, but it's possible to throw it out of the sidebar.

I tried to repair permissions on my HDD, to close all running applications (cmd+Q not red cross), but it made no difference.

What can be done with this?
Thanks.

Welcome to The Apple Community Forums.

Go to /Applications/Utilities/Activity monitor and launch it. Then command-tab and quit all applications except Finder and Activity Monitor. In Activity monitor in the Process Name column, do see any other other icons next to process names other than Finder & AM? If so, quit them.

Also choose "All Processes" from the drop down menu at the top and look for the same.

Let us know.

I did it, here's the log:

Jelx-MacBook-Pro:~ jelx$ diskutil list

/dev/disk2

2: Apple DriverATAPI 935.3 MB disk2s2
3: Apple_HFS Mac OS X Install DVD 7.4 GB disk2s3
Jelx-MacBook-Pro:~ jelx$ sudo diskutil umount force /dev/disk1
Password:
disk1 was already not mounted or it has a partitioning scheme so use "diskutil unmountDisk" instead

Nothing changed, it's still here 😟

Hello!

I've been experiencing the same problem for a while now. I typed in the command with the correct drive and it gave me the following prompt:

Macintosh-2:~ (mynamewashere)$ sudo diskutil umount force/dev/disk2s2

WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss
or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your
typing when using sudo. Type "man sudo" for more information.

Should I follow these commands? Is this what I'm looking for as a response?

Thank you!
