Due to recent security concerns, my company's networking team has begun looking into how one might disable ad-hoc networking on both Windows and Mac computers. Windows computers appears to be fairly easy - it's a check box in the Windows wireless management software. I have disabled internet sharing on the Macs through group policy, but have not found an easy way to disable ad-hoc networking. Any recommendations?
In system Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced button, There is an option to require an administrator password to create computer to computer networks. Do your users have admin rights? If not, this might do it for you.
Thanks for your reply. Our users do have administrative privileges, so group policies would be the best solution, so that even if the user were to override the setting temporarily, it would lock it back down at the next reboot.
I am also unable to find a way to disable and/or delete an ad-hoc network. I've about tried every trick I can imagine. I do have administrator rights but simply cannot find a solution. ANY ideas?
I appreciate your response. Let me clarify. I am a personal user and created the ad-hoc network sometime back. I've tried disabling and or deleting it but have had no success. I can't find any documentation on the Apple support site and am looking for any thought as to how I might go about it.
