I think you right, the Glass panel needs to be removed and cleaned..
Your options are, take it to your Local Apple Store/Apple Service Provider or clean it yourself as shown in the following YouTube Video's.

I never thought about that it was possible to remove the glass plate.
It's coming of very easily.
