Grouping Received Text Messages

I have my contact list all up to date. One person in particular has two cell phone numbers in his contact information, and texts me from both of those numbers. However, when I receive the texts, the conversations aren't grouped together. Instead, I see two different text message conversations from the same person. Anyway to make the phone automatically combine conversations from the same person rather than same number?

I agree - I don't think this is group messaging.

However, I still think it should work this way for what I was originally asking. I'd expect that it would group messages by contact, not by name. Any worthwhile piece of software doesn't store and sort by a text string anyhow - it has a unique field for identifying that information. I'd expect that any communication with that "contact" could be grouped together. Then I could have 10 John Smiths and all of their communications would still be seperate because they are seperate contacts, however, I could still receive text messages from each of their 10 cell phones in 1 continuous text string.

Make sense? Other phones have this capability - in addition to adding chat and email to those existing text messages. You can transfer your conversation with one person between multiple different mediums.

I'm mostly concerned with grouping text messages - but it extends beyond that.

Well, I do only text from one number - but others may not.

Current example of why one wouldn't is the new use of Google Voice. You can send texts from the number. However, this is a second number, assigned to a same contact... I've already received texts from others at their Google Voice number in addition to their text numbers (because you can do it from the web).

I have the same issue as jtrevill. I get sitedown alerts from my company and they are sent to the email address form of my phone number so the come in as an SMS. However, the way AT&T handles this, is that is it creates a 10 digit number (one of 500 available) and sends it from that number. It cycles through the list of 500 then repeats.

If I have a server outtage i may have hundreds of texts that need to be deleted one at a time, even though i've grouped all these numbers into one contact.
