ipod touch 4G not recognized in itunes

I just received my new ipod touch 4G 32GB in the mail today. It's running 4.1 (the latest firmware). I also have itunes 10. But itunes doesn't recognize my device but my laptop (Windows 7) does. Although, it is recognizing it as a digital camera, not sure if that makes a difference. I had an older ipod touch that had the same problem. It seems to be the new version of itunes because it works on my gf's laptop, running itunes 9.2 or whatever. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

Hey guys,
If anyone else is having this problem try this: (I called Apple and they walked me through this and it worked)

-Power off your ipod and make sure it is unplugged from the computer
-While it is off, hold down the Home button
-Then plug your ipod back into the computer, while holding down the Home button.
-itunes should then detect it and will probably ask you to restore it.

I know this might be too basic but have you tried hitting the home button after you have connected the ipod to the PC?

Sometimes (depending on which order I connect the ipod, and whether itunes is open or not), I have to push the home button and make the ipod come alive before it shows itself in itunes.

If that isn't the problem then do a search here for your problem, and you will find advice that will let you check the set up of your itunes and its drivers on your computer to try and get things working again 😀

Hey, I got my very first iPod touch (4g) today and I have the same problem. I'm working on Windows 7 Professional, 32bit. I tried everything that was said. Removing the iPod from the computer, switching it off, plugging it back while holding the home key and letting go once I see the apple logo. but iTunes still doesn't detect the device. And I've also tried the usual of uninstalling, re-installing, repairing iTunes. Still no luck.
And since it is my first iPod, I've pretty much got no clue as to what's happening. But I've been using iTunes since for ever.
ANY help to get things started will be appreciated cos I've been saving for this for such a long time and finally this **** happens. So yeah...

If you're using Windows, try going to Control Panel > Device Manager. When that opens, go to the bottom of the list and click on the arrow beside "Universal Serial Bus controllers" so that more options drop down. "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" should be at the top of what drops down. Right-click that and choose uninstall.

If your iPod is plugged in, unplug it and replug it in. Windows should start re-downloading the driver and eventually iTunes should recognize the iPod again.
