Emailing ePub books for iBooks

There are many apps that say they read ePub documents so emails should work with one of those readers. Any DRM might complicate that though.

One way you can easily get ePub files on multiple devices is to upload the file to a website (a wiki, Google Site, iWeb, etc). Be sure to keep the file name short, without spaces and append the suffix .epub. Using Safari on the iPad, navigate to the link, and when tapped on, users will be prompted to "open the epub in iBooks"

We've been sharing files this way for our classrooms.

Have the recipients download the free Bluefire app onto their iPads. Then email the epub to them, and when you double-click on the epub, it will show the option to open in Bluefire.

You can use Dropbox then you can share files at many devices.

One caution about emailing epubs. Several people have reported that while they are able to open and read emailed epubs, unlike books transferred through itunes they tend to disappear on the next sync, so if you plan to do it that way, be sure to do a test run first.

If you open it in Bluefire, it should still be there after synching.
