music purchased on iPad won't transfer to Mac

I purchased an album on the iPad. Instructions says that since the iPad and my Mac are on the same iTunes account the music should transfer over to the Mac when I dock the iPad. But this does not happen.

???

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4), music purcahsed on iPad won't transfer to Mac even though both are on same account

When the iPad is connected there is a checkbox that says transfer purchased stuff to the computer. Is that box checked?

I don't have that option. (I have manually manage music selected as the volume of music on my Mac will exceed capacity of the iPad.)

this is for iPhone but works the same for iPad:

connect your device and right-click or control-click your iPad in the iTunes Source list, then choose +transfer purchases+ from the shortcut menu that appears.
