Hello everyone, hopefully I can find my answer on this forum. I purchased a new itouch 4th gen earlier this evening and after playing around with it for a new minutes I realized that the sleep/wake button is not working. Nothing happens when I push the button. Did I receive a defective itouch or is there some setting i'm missing? Also if I purchased the itouch at Best Buy can I take it to an apple store if I did receive a defective itouch? Thanks in advanced!

itouch, iOS 4

I am having this exact issue with my 4th Gen iPod touch. Also, volume buttons do not respond at times (both problems happen randomly). Has this issue been resolved for you?

I am having the same problem right now. Did either of you get yours fixed? Or did you return for a new one? Is it defective? Please advise.

I had the same problem: sleep/wake button and volume buttons not working, randomly.
I took it to an Apple Store. I had restored it to factory settings before taking it. At first the rep said it must be a software problem because it seemed to be working fine when I was there, of course. I insisted I wanted a replacement. He went to get one, reluctantly, and when he came back it wasn't working again. Anyway, besides feeling good about 'showing him', this proved that it isn't a software problem.
I got my replacement yesterday and today, these **** buttons are not working again, I must be cursed. It's definitely a hardware problem and I'm definitely getting my replacement replaced.

It's a hardware issue. The Sleep/Wake button and volume controls are all part of the same assembly. Get it serviced.
