Deleting mail from iPhone

Is there a way of deleting the entire inbox of a mail account without going through each individual e-mail?

It depends on how you access the Hotmail account on your iPhone.

If you access the account as a POP account, deleting a message with the iPhone has no effect on messages stored on the server unless you have the option to remove messages from the server when a message is removed from the account's Inbox mailbox.

If you access the account as an Exchange account, deleting a message from the account's Inbox mailbox also deletes the message on the server.

I was doing it via the Exchange server setting that I setup my hotmail account with when I got my iphone last month. I chose to do it this way because I did not know of any other way to set up mail on my iphone. Is there another apple sanctioned way to set up my iphone to send/receive mail via my hotmail account? You mentioned the POP method?

Thanks

I am having some of the same problems.
I have my 3 hotmail/live accounts setup thru the POP3 method yet it does not delete the msgs from the server when I delete them off my phone and I only have 2 folders, Inbox and Trash.
I created an exchange account for one of them but it only recieved the newest msgs, I want my whole inbox/account like it did with my Gmail account.

Anyone help me out.

In common with others who have posted here, I find that I have set up via Exchange and IMAP, so that the thousands of emails on my home computer are all duplicated on my iPhone4. So be it.

In which case the second part of mathieuvp's question becomes important: Does the iPhone use a lot of storage for emails?
Apart from undoing the original setup (which I don't know how to do) is there another way around this difficulty?
