music sound level varies - can i fix this?!?!?!?

so each of my songs seem to have a different sound level. so when a song comes on soft i have to raise the volume and then the next song to come on is really REALLY loud because i had to raise the volume from the previous song. is there a way to set all my songs to play at the same sound level (does this make sense to you if your reading this?)
i just want all my songs to play at the same level .... please tell me if there is a way to do this! thanks so much!

OK I've been using iVolume for a day now and I can't tell you how much it has improved things for me.

Instead of dashing to adjust the volume every time a new track starts, I can just leave iTunes playing all day and get on with the rest of my life.

I've also tried downloading a new album and running iVolume again. FIrst time around it missed the new tracks but after shutting it down and also shutting down iTunes, then starting again, it picked up the new tracks and equalised their audio playback level to match the levels of all my other music.

And I know this may sound very sad, but I enjoyed watching the iVolume window as it automatically worked its way through my entire music collection, sliding the voume control up and down for each track. I should get out more, I know.

iVolume is the product of a large brain. Fantastic piece of work.

And no, he isn't a friend of mine though I suspect he may be one of the people who hangs out in these forums.

I hope the original poster comes back in here and reads my glowing testimonial.
