Can't connect Iphone 4 to computer

I'm running Windows 7 32-bit, my Iphone 4 won't connect to my computer. I plug it in and it plays the USB connected sound and then about 4-5 seconds later it plays the USB disconnected sound. Nothing appears different in the device manager. The big issue though is, I have an Iphone 1G, it connects just fine to my computer. It shows up in the device manager and Itunes recognizes it. Any suggestions? I tried uninstalling and re-installing. Nothing has worked so far. I want to sync my contacts and stuff to my new phone.

I assume you are using iTunes Ver 10?

I have worked around similar USB problems like this by simply using another USB port.

If that works I would suggest a utility called USBDview and remove any old iPhone USB drivers. You may have to reinstall iTunes Ver 10 afterwards to get the right drivers back.

Don't plug you iPhone in until you have reinstalled iTunes.. Oh and don't un-install any previous version of iTune or you stand a chance of losing your backups.
