Question

iPad won't unlock (slide to unlock) in landscape

Hi... I've got a user whose iPad won't unlock when it is in the landscape position... but will unlock in the portrait position.

Initially, it wouldn't unlock in either. I had the user take off his screen protector and then it would unlock in portrait.

Any ideas, or is this an Applecare fix?

If removing the protector made a difference, it sounds like a touchscreen issue - maybe if the screen thinks it's being swiped, it won't rotate?

You could try cleaning the screen to remove any residue from the screen protector.

I'll double check the screen (I have to go pry the iPad out of the user's hands), but it looked clean when I pulled off the protector. But it can't hurt to try. Thanks.

If cleaning the screen doesn't help, try having the user restart the iPad, if s/he hasn't done so already. (Hold down the power button until you get the red "slide to power off", do so, and then press the power button again to start the iPad back up.)

I finally got the iPad. The screen is clean, but I'll go over it again in the morning. User pointed out that since taking off the screen protector, he now gets multiple letters when typing with the virtual keyboard.

I tested it and it will enter 2 't's with one press of the key within the Notes program. Putting the protector back on might solve this... but then there is the whole unlocking issue. Catch-22.

Ha my iPad has the same problem. I have never had a screen protector on my iPad. I can't unlock in landscape mode and when i press the the letter "t" it came out twice and same thing with the number 5. The problem started once i updated to ios 4.2. Some time the screen will just lock up and not do any thing. I have to hard boot the iPad before i can us it again.

I have a new ipad 2 and am having a problem with the screen not rotating even though the lock switch is off. In addition a get the letter n or m frequently when I am typing an email. Anyone else have this problem?

I had the same probkem with my ipad2. I got an app called gyroscope from the app store and my gyroscope seemed ok so i think it is a glitch in the ios
