This is insane...I am connected to wifi at my home and I downloaded a racing game that is taking over 5 minutes to download. Same with other apps, they take way longer than they used to

Also, has anyone noticed how slow Maps is when loading what you have searched for? ****!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

What happens if you try to download on 3G as opposed to WiFi?

I've been having the same issue... apps taking an hour or so to download. Then I turned off wifi and with 3G the apps downloaded in a flash. Does anyone know why?

5 minutes is forever to you?
Are you a fruit fly that only lives 24 hours?

Without having access to your network it is hard to say if it is the iPhone or your network.
Have you tried a different wifi network?

As it happens, I was having an issue with wi-fi recently and was worried it was my phone.

Two things I did GREATLY increased the speed. First was that I made a small change (just the name) on my guest account. Apparently the restart process it does after any change got things working much better. Later I turned off the guest account completely. I use a Time Capsule and read that people were having trouble with iphone 4 and Time Capsule and that a lot solved it by turning off the guest network.

That's all I did. Very fast now.

But as basic steps for fixing things, it is always good to try turning off everything (phone, computer, router, modem) and restarting. As it happens, I tried that without success. Apparently the "restart" the router/time capsule did when I made the change does something else that simply powering down and restarting does not do.

Thanks dbk9999, I turned off the Guest Network and it worked. The apps are downloading as fast as a rat out of a drainpipe again.
That is an interesting network aberration.

That's great. I decided I really never used the guest network anyway. I only set it up in case someone visited and that way they could use a password that wasn't one I used. But it's never been needed so no loss.

If you do have a use for a guest network, you might try turning it on again. Remember that I got a lot of improvement even when I only changed the name - the restart process must have fixed something. So maybe now that you've done that, even with the guest network it might work.

Tried your suggestion- switch to 3G instead of wifi when downloading apps. It worked!
