How do I get my sound back?

I have lost all sound on my Ipod classic 30gb
Checked the headphones on my Ipad all OK
Seems to srun OK, timing mechanism operates as normal as do all the other menu items.
Do I ditch the IPod? Or can it be fixed

IPod Classic 30 GB, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

So, headphones don't work...sounds like an issue with the headphone jack. You might try blowing or brushing it out to make sure that the contacts are clean.

I checked the headphone jack by using the same one onmy IPad. I works OK gnere

I think you may be mixing up the plug of the headphones with the jack itself on the iPod.

Sorry, did it on the train.
But I said.
I understand what you said, but how do I reach the bottom of the jack.
All I can think of is using that old stand by, the unbent paperclip, but then I am completely technically inept

A paperclip sounds as good as anything else. If you don't trust yourself in poking around in the headphone hack, you should probably then take in to an Apple Store and see if they can fix it for you.
