Time Capsule problem

Hello. I'm having a problem when backing up to my TC. It worked fine after 4 calls with apple care and eventually resetting it over and over. But then for some reason the Sparsebundel got corrupted and I need to start al over again. But ofcourse, it is not working, again. This is the error message on the console:
Starting standard backup
Attempting to mount network destination using URL: afp://Lars%20Blockken@tclars.local/data
Mounted network destination using URL: afp://Lars%20Blockken@tclars.local/data
Creating disk image /Volumes/data/jarvis.sparsebundle
GetMasterBlock: Error 6 from read; amount=-1, wanted=512
mount_hfs: Device not configured
Error 1 creating backup disk image

Backup failed with error: 20
[SnapshotUtilities mountPointForVolumeRef] FSGetVolumeInfo returned: -35
Failed to eject volume (null) (FSVolumeRefNum: -104; status: -35; dissenting pid: -1)

I don't know why It doesn't work.

Kind regards,
Lars

It seems to be having a problem even reading from the drive.

Try this while connected via Ethernet cable if at all possible -- it will be faster, and rule out WIFI problems.

I'm not sure what all you did with Apple and "resetting," but I'd recommend erasing the TC's internal HD via +*Airport Utility.+* Select +*Base Station > Manual Set-Up+* from the Menubar, then Disks in the tool Bar, then Erase. It might be worth the time to select the +Zero Out Disk+ option, so OSX will write to every sector on the drive. That will take quite a while, of course, but if it fails, there's clearly a physical problem with the disk. If it succeeds, that's no guarantee the drive is ok, unfortunately.

How old is your Time Capsule?

My time capsule is just over a year old. But I have apple care pro on my Macbook. Would the warranty of that also cover my time capsule if the hdd fails?

Yup. 🙂

If you purchase Apple Care for a Mac within two years of getting a Time Capsule (or Airport), it's covered, too. See the 4th bullet point in the *Apple hardware coverage* section here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/APPLECAREMBA-102582?mco=MTYzNjAwMzk

I'm going to let it format now with the security setting and will update the status.

Cool. Keep us posted.

That can take a long time, especially if you have the 2 TB model.

Are you connected via Ethernet?

If you're sure it's hung, try to cancel the process or disconnect, rather than kill the power, if you can.

But it sure doesn't sound good. 😟

I'd be inclined to make an appointment at your local Apple Store or Authorized Repair location. They may be able to test it. Apparently they don't repair them, but just replace them.
