Airport Express setup with D-Link DIR-615

I've had two airport express working fine with my wireless network for a couple of years now. I've just got a cable broadband service and a new router (D-Link DIR-615) and I can't set up the airport express.

If I reset it and connect it via a network cable I can put the correct settings in but after they are saved and the device restarts airport utility tells me that it is unable to find the airport express and i get the dreaded flashing amber light.

This is driving me mad, and any help solving this problem would be appreciated.

The router is using WPA/WPA2 Personal if that makes any difference.

Airport Extreme, Windows 7

OK I've solved this and am posting the solution here in case it helps anyone else.

I have had to set the router to TKIP and not AES. The airport express seems to recognise TKIP but not AES.

This helped me a lot - finally (after 3 days of trial and error - mostly error) got my AE connected by changing from AES to TKIP.

BUT, now my wife can't connect her work computer to our wireless network (requires AES).

Is there any way to get the airport connected with the more secure AES??

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem as you guys, so the solution you suggest might be helpfull for me too. But can anyone please tell me how I change the settings on my d-link modem from AES to TKIP.

Check your manual / documentation for the D-Link modem. Most companies ask you to enter an address like 192.168.1.254, (for example only) into your browser to access the configuration pages for your device.

Hi Bob,

thanks for your answer. I actually managed to get it work finally. Not by changing my modem settings, but by setting up the AE manually and in the connection settings with my existing network by choosing WPA and not WPA/WPA2. That did the trick ...
