"We could not complete your iTunes Store request...

I haven't been able to complete a purchase for two days. Or download app updates.

hi, using a reply for another post.. I meant music tab not icon below.. hope it helps..

Please don't update to itunes 10 if your stuff is old like mine. I initially thought it might be the cause of not getting into the store - 10 isn't compatible with Tiger OS. I've only just registered after having a Mac for years. I did use the forums for info years ago. It used to be such a happy place!

Anyhow I got in via - Store pull down menu; Search.. option; artist name (Springsteen or Christine Schäfer); click on artist name on right; then click on genre (rock or classical in these cases). The home house icon and the music icon are still not working and give the 'we could not complete...store is temporarily unavailable' error message when clicked, but the itunes STORE menu on the left does seem to give access to the app store, music videos, other genres.. I'm logged in with my itunes id automatically. I haven't bought anything yet, and this is with itunes 8, but... I hope work around is some help.

I discovered the same workaround. Originally, I got same error message - number 499 - and couldn't access anything. Then I entered through the Store menu but still could not access Music, Movies and TV Shows. Then Movies and TV Shows became available miraculously one day, but still not Music. So I enter the Music section through the Search function.

I haven't been able to connect to the iTunes store for about a week and just today some of my podcasts stopped downloading. I did this and my iTunes store popped right up (yay! i have like 5 tv shows, 10 podcasts, and some other things downloading right now!):

I added these "trusted web sites" to my filter (net nanny):

gs.apple.com
albert.apple.com
ax.itunes.apple.com
itunes.apple.com

I also added those same four web addresses to my internet settings (click apple symbol in top left, then preferences, network, advanced, proxies tab, bypass proxy settings for these hosts).

I'm not sure which of my two attempts was the solution but I'm thrilled with the result. Hope it works for you!
