I have the same message coming up. It happened after I updated to the newest iTunes. But I tried it on my other computer and it has an older version of iTunes and the same message came up. I will try what Jolly Giant came up with.
try *removing iTunes completely* (click
here and follow the instructions), then reinstall it using the standalone installer from here:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
note this will not
touch your media files, playlists, ratings, etc.
