SOLUTION to pathetic Ping junk in Windows iTunes 10.0.1

How to fix the ping junk for Mac has been floating around for a bit, but so far, no one has posted how to fix it on Windows... Until now!

So, here's how:

Enter the following commands in a Command Prompt window or the 'Run' dialog box.

"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt hide-ping-dropbown 1
"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt show-store-link-arrows 1
"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt disablePingSidebar 1

If you're on a 64-bit version of windows, use this instead:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt hide-ping-dropbown 1
"C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt show-store-link-arrows 1
"C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt disablePingSidebar 1

Hope this helps a few people!

+Does this remove the 4 Ping lines from the context menu I get when I right-click songs in my library? These lines push the options I do commonly use, "Get info" and "Show in Windows Explorer", that many lines down in the context menu.+

This is the horrid part. I've submitted feedback to Apple. Let's hope they get rid of it. I use lastfm to scrobble, my iPod to rate tracks, and I'm not about to start entering everything I "like" in Ping since I'm not a teen with copious spare time.
It makes it more difficult to get to the itunes store page I want, as well.

Please, everyone, send feedback to Apple and give them the URL of this thread!

Here's what I sent them
+Please get rid of the in drop-down in the track name column!+
+Please get rid of Ping in the right-click > flyout menu!+

+They make it much more difficult to and annoying use itunes.+
+People are figuring out how to turn some of it off, they dislike it so much.+

+The likeliness of me recommending iTune to a friend has dropped from a 10 to a 5.+

+By the way, iTunes 10. doesn't show up in the list of itunes versions further down this page.+

Important Note (maybe obvious but...) You MUST have iTunes completely shut down when you do this, as you are changing a file it is using.

Also, I couldn't get it to work with the "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt show-store-link-arrows 1

what I did was navigate to the folder in a command prompt and just did "iTunes" /setPrefInt show-store-link-arrows 1

It worked just fine.

Good luck.

Thanks to you and also David!

I had to go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes in the command prompt window first, then copy/paste
"iTunes" /setPrefInt show-store-link-arrows 1

before it would put the store arrows back.

I was actually kinda enjoying Ping, at least the comments from Yo-Yo Ma.
I turned Ping off for 3 days and it lost everything, though....which it said it would keep everything for 7 days. When I turned it back on, it showed I was following 37 people but all the pages were blank. Not worth setting it up again!
Yet another Ping fail.

Now it's off for good and I have my arrows back, thanks to you both.
