PING - Error 5002 (unknown error)

*"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (5002)."*

No issues getting to the iTunes Store. But loading PING always shows me this message.

HP Pavilion Elite, Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 (2.50GHz), Windows Vista, 64-bit, Service Pack 2

Well, I'm apparently not alone. I found another thread created September 3rd:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2567863&tstart=240

Neither that thread or this thread has had any fix or suggestions posted. Anyone at all have any idea what the heck is going on with this insane 5002 error???

I had a similar problem that I was able to fix. I was getting the 5002 error whenever I tried to access Ping > Recent Activity. I was still able to visit other Ping links though. Finally I went through each of the "People I Follow" and found one that gave me the same 5002 error, so I clicked "Stop Following" for that artist and now everything works.

So far I have figured out it directly related to pre purchases, at least that is in my case anyway. I had pre-ordered Salt but when i went to download I received error 5002 and it said to try later. I tried for two days. I ran disk utilities and repaired permissions that did nothing, then I ran Disk Warrior, it showed the directory was all messed up. Still nothing, so I tried to just download Salt directly and sure enough it worked just fine and it is downloading now. As I said I believe it is related to the pre- purchase somehow. All of that is from an iTunes dedicated mac mini, nothing else is on that computer, no email at all.
