iTunes freezes when adding music file from smb share

As title states, if I try to add more than 15/20 files to iTunes, it freezes and there's no turning back.
All my music is stored on my home-server (running Gentoo/Linux) and I have always used it with success until iTunes 10 came out.

The only thing I can do is to unmount the remote directory, open iTunes and remove the music.

I've already tried to upgrade to v10.0.1 but no luck so far.

Any clue?

I have the same problem, I think they broke something in version 10.

My entire library is on an SMB drive, I had to roll back to 9.2.1

Accessing media files over an smb mounted share with v10.x is still broken. The only solution so far is rolling back to v9.2.1

I'm aware about that discussion but there they talk abount a general NAS server with I-did-not-get protocol and, at the end of that topic, someone found a solution with the latest upgrade.

I'm here to specify that I'm having issues with smb protocol and the latest update didn't solve the situation, at least for me.

Unfortunately 10.1b5 doesn't fix the problem either 😟

Come on apple don't your testers test on SMB drives, you caused me a nightmare with 10.6.3 and the SMB issues.

I just got to jump in and say I'm having the exact same issue. Have an smb share of my iTunes library off of a Windows 7 computer that has been working perfectly, up until the 10.X update. Now it take 5+ minutes to open and then additional time to of spinning rainbow wheel when I move through iTunes sections.

We are still waiting for an official statement by Apple here. I'd like to know if they're addressing this issue in the next release.

As a workaround, try to import up to 10 tracks at a time. I've seen that this way the freezes last less.

I'm not even trying to add songs to my library, its just opening it and doing any kind of playment or syncing with a device that seems to cause the freeze.

I have also been having this same issue, and have had no luck trying to fix it. I've done some experiments, and it seems to work great with only ONE song in my entire library. Two or more, and iTunes freezes. Apple, please note that this is NOT the same issue as the NAS shared music server issue.

This has gotten to be a real problem for me as well. It freezes for about 40 seconds for each song I add. It even comes up as "not responding" at times in the force quit dialogue box. I rolled back to iTunes 9.2.1 as described here:

Others have reported this fixing the problem, but it has NOT fixed it for me. I have my media on an SMB share and my library files were on the local hard drive. I tried moving the library files over to the SMB share, but it didn't improve anything.

I've been using "Activity Monitor" to look at what's going on and there's minimal CPU usage. But I am noticing something odd: the "Reads in" and "Writes out" figures are pretty much the same, which is what I would expect as I'm copying song files from my internal HD to the SMB share. But the "Data read" and "Data written" figures are very different. It's reading over twice as much data as it's writing. Either I'm misunderstanding what I'm looking at or something isn't right here. Anyone with more technical chops care to jump in?

I'd post a picture, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this.

I'm also wondering if there are corrupted plist files or other invisible files that can be deleted and rebuilt? I used "Filebuddy" to unhide the files and found a file in the iTunes folder called "sentinel". Anyone know what that is?
