QuickTime X controls disappear - and don't come back

I have a new Mac mini server (10.6), and have frequent problems with QuickTime X. During about 50% of videos, trailers, etc., watched, the controls disappear and they don't come back. I have to quick QT to see control again. The videos will play, and I can use keyboard controls to pause, etc., but no onscreen controls.

Any thoughts? No, I didn't trash the prefs. This is a new Mac and a new user - no migrated files from a previous account.

202 Mac mini server, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Use Quicktime Player version 7 instead of Quicktime 10.

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded.

Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.

Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".

Thanks, I do have QT 7. However, I'd like to get QT X fixed, as Safari seems to always use that for streaming movie trailers.

I'm seeing this exact same issue. After reboot, the issue goes away for a short while. But eventually returns.

This was also on a new installation of Mac OS X with just software update applied; not an update of previous version.

Has anyone else experienced this, or found the cause?
