iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

I'm having this issue as well. I have 4.2.1 software on my phone and have had this software updated for a couple of weeks now. I started noticing this a few days ago. It is getting worse pretty quickly. When I receive a text message or try to wake the phone from the sleep mode I have a very difficult time getting the home button to work. I do use my phone a lot for work and personal use so I am not sure what the issue is but it is extremely annoying.

I do have an extended warranty that I purchased when I received the phone. What are the steps that I need to take to get it resolved or fixed? And do you think the extended warranty that I purchased is going to cover the cost of repairs?

I purchased the phone from AT&T about a week or two when the iPhone 4 came out so I have had it for several months now.

Applecare just extends the warranty that is all. Any problems or defects or failure you got on your phone is covered under warranty, whether it is a standard 1 year warranty or 2 year warranty. Simply make an appointment with the Genius bar, show them your problem. They will try to reproduce the same problem that you are having and if they determine that it does have a problem, they will replace the phone. If they can not reproduce the problem you are having, just simply tell them that you want to still replace the phone, and they should be happy to replace it for you. There is no cost when replacing a phone directly from the apple store and you should be out of the store in 10 minute or so.

The only downside of this issue is that there are no apple stores near my state at all. Its a 6 hour round trip from my town to the nearest apple store. Also we can't do the exchange for an iphone because of the micro-SIM card. No other ATT phone can use a micro-SIM card, at least one that I own. So I have a little bit of a harder time getting my phone replaced. Dang it!

Well have you considered calling Apple care? You can do it over by the phone. They have the Advanced replacement system. Normally here is how this works. You call them, ask them to send you a replacement, you will need your credit card here for they will put a temporary charge on your account. They will ship two things. One with the phone (white box), another box, that is black and is empty. Upon receiving the replacment phone, you have to ship the defected one back (which you put it on the black box). You have 20 days (I think). When Apple receives your defected phone, the charge on your account will be credited back to you. This way you still have a phone on you while your defected one comes back.

ok my home button use to be good before the ios 4.1.2 , I just had to lightly tap twice for the multi-task and i could re tap once to quit the multi-task. Now when i try to open multi-task bar i sometimes have to press 2-3 more times and sometimes it shows the ''search on your iphone'' ( when u tap once ). I kinda have to push hard now. But most of the time I have trouble to use home button properly.

It's not like it used to be.

What should I do? wait for next update? If I go to my local Canadian Apple store and make em check it out, will they replace it? ( I am with Fido )

Two weeks after I have my iPhone 4, I faced this issue. I posted my impressions in a few posts above.

My old 3G iPhone which have no problem start showing some fault after I update to iOS 4.2.1. The 3G iPhone home button is not very responsive. I have to press a few times to wake it up from sleep. I don't have this issue in iOS 4.1.

This is very strange. I wish someone in Apple would confirm/deny this!

I doubt it would be a software issue. Most likely it is a hardware issue. It could be that the dust or foreign particle have somehow entered the phone, it could be touching the metal connector, which causes the responsiveness of the home button to not respond properly. Maybe blowing off dust may help, but it likely won't. YOu are better off going to the apple store and getting it checked by the technician for this.

Why is that unreasonable?

You made a decision not to invest in Apple's extended warranty and so they are charging you a service fee to facilitate shipping for sending you a replacement ahead of receiving your phone. It's free to get a swap if you go to an Apple Retail Store and you're under the limited warranty.
