I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.
Is it become more and more difficult after use of awhile? I just bought mine 15 days ago. I’m out of warranty. I can’t make decision to keep it or sell it. The problem now I can have with the home button; maybe I can live with it as it is now but if it becomes more then it should be very annoying.
I'm still experiencing this annoying problem. Went to the Genius Bar the other day and took my phone and hooked it up to their computer and then handed it back to me and tried to duplicate the issue. Whatever they did (probably just a reset) made it to where the problem could not be duplicated. That night though the problem came right back. I've done all the restores but the problem persists. Of course no there has "ever heard of a problem like this" which I do not believe. Apple needs to fix this issue!
Come on... After 30,000 view on the forum how likely is it that no one in the Apple Store has ever heard of this problem. Come on Apple grow a pair and address this issue!
i ´ve got exactly the same issue. i have got my iPhone 4 since july 2010. in first month everything is working fine. i am not really sure, but i think after the latest software update my home button has got this issue. sometimes i have to push the button 3 times to left the app or the multitask bar came up after 1 push. in 80% the button works normal. this issue *****!
I just stumbled on this thread. I can add my name to the affected people's list.
I've had my iP4 since August and it was fine at first but it got progressively worse especially after the 4.1 update (coincidence maybe). Basically sometimes (about 1-2 in 10 clicks - roughly 15% of the time) single clicks will either not register at all or get registered as double-clicks bringing up the multi-task bar (the latter is way more common in my experience).
It's very frustrating and it's the only issue I've ever had with my iPhone 4 which is why I'm so reluctant to get mine exchanged, that and also if it's software related exchanging won't do much.
Add me too. My home button problems didn't seem to coincide with any software updates, they just started happening. 2 or 3 times a day, my single clicks register as double clicks, which brings up the task bar. Every now and then, my double clicks register as single clicks. And the weirdest one is that sometimes my phone registers the click but doesn't do anything. For example, I'm in an app, I click once, nothing happens. I single click again and the phone goes to the home screen and then it immediately goes to the search screen. It's like it saves the first click for later. Incredibly irritating, especially given my history with iPhone 4 so far.....
1st iPhone 4: WiFi problems-->had to have it replaced
2nd iPhone 4: dead pixel-->had to have it replaced
3rd iPhone 4: had very obvious cosmetic damage (big chunk taken out of the antenna band) that I didn't notice until I got it home and then developed gyroscope issues where the screen orientation would lock up and force me to have to reboot the phone.
4th iPhone 4: I hate to admit, I dropped it and shattered the screen--had to have that one replaced. Of course, I do not blame this on Apple.
5th iPhone 4: The one I have now. Was working flawlessly until this home button thing popped up.
This is the first Apple product I have ever owned and I am unbelievably frustrated with it. Apple has been (mostly) cool about all my exchanges, but that doesn't mean it's any fun for me to have to keep going into the Apple store. I have an appointment for Thursday morning and I just know I won't be able to recreate the problem while I'm there. I also know they are sick of me coming in to complain about my hardware. What they don't understand is that I'm sick of having to restore my phones and start all over every time just knowing that the new phone will develop some other crazy issue.
I agree, a response is needed from Apple. I haven't updated in awhile and feel it necessary since I started the topic. I have noticed if i use a case that doesn't cover my home button it tends to work almost all the time. I don't really notice the issue anymore to be honest. I am not quite sure what happened. When I use my otterbox I will push and get no response but I think its the case, I have 2 otters and it does it with both, if I just use a case that covers sides and/or back when I push the home button I get a response almost every time. Its something that has happened for 6-7 months so I don't know if I overlook it now or if it's really happening less. I think it's happening less though. I would like an official response to figure out what the issue possibly could be though, it has happened to a lot of iPhone 4's that I am aware of.
I think i'll try a DFU restore and set the phone as new, some users solved the issue by doing that... Maybe that means this is a software issue... I'll report the results later...
i am so sad to have myself in the list as well.
Once in a while my home button is not working. Either it register once when i press twice or non-register when i press once. I am wondering is there anyone of u get your iphone4 from malaysia digi center? Should I sent my phone back to the digi center for replacement? I am just thinking will they exchange 1-1 since this problem is not easily reproduced. Please give me some advise thanks.
Today i nkticed that my iphone 4 button feels different than tje home button of an ipod 4g of a frined... Is this normal, if the answer is no, then i don't think the DFUmrestore solves the issue and it is a hardware problem after all...
yes the DFU mode will not solve the problem. Today i went to digi center hope that i can get the phone exchange but as i thought, they claim that i cannot reproduced the problem on the spot so they refused to change for me. They say if i want to send for a check it will cost me RM750. The funny thing is they suggest me to wait until the home button is totally not working then only i can claim they new phone from them. Fantastic!!
