iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

I have posted several pages back that blowing some pressure air in the connection zone the problem started to disappear. From the very beginning I had the home button problem 8 out to 10 times. Since I did this, one and a half month ago, only failed one time. Once a week I do this procedure and now is working fine. Strange? yes, but works. I saw 3 posted that they did this and had worked too.
If anybody will try this, as some did, please post the experience

I have noticed this problem getting progressively worse in the last month or so. I've had the phone since Sept. I have upgraded to 4.2.1 and only noticed it after that.

Clicks are inconsistent, sometimes do nothing, sometimes do what they are supposed to, sometimes 1 click registers as 2, sometimes 2 clicks registers as 1 etc etc etc.

What is the "connection zone" that I can blow air into? I'd like to try it. Thanks!

"The connection zone" is the slot where you plug the cable from the iPhone to the wall socket to charge the battery.
Buy a can of pressure air and blow inside this in a gentle way. For some of us worked. Every time more and more iPhone 4 users have this problem. I do not know if it is a hardware or a software problem, I only know that THIS IS A PROBLEM involving TOO MANY PEOPLE and Apple is not taking care of this cause, and is my personal opinion, they have to remove millions of iPhones's 4 and this cost a lot lot of money. I guess that in the future somebody will demand Apple for this malfunction phone cause we are a lot of users in the world suffering for a non responding HOME BUTTON that cause frustration in first time and then the no possibility to interact properly with the phone as was advertised by Apple

First, I would encourage everyone affected by this to submit feedback directly to Apple.

My wife and I both have iPhone 4s and have had them since release. We bought a third one last October to replace a lost one. Each phone has had this issue in some capacity but here are the similarities....

a) Rebooting the phone every day seems to help.

b) It happens most often when using intensive apps (Camera, Safari, Games, etc.)

c) If the phone hasn't been used for a while (couple of hours, for example), the issue does not happen, at least until apps are being loaded and used.

d) Lots of apps in the springboard seems to exacerbate it. Check which apps you have in the springboard--I noticed it more often when Camera was on.

e) After rebooting the iPhone 4, the issue is very profound within the first few minutes. (My guess is that iOS is still loading....)

Hope that helps. 🙂

This seems consistent with my experience. It just doesn't feel like a hardware issue. My home button is nice and solid and "clicky" and doesn't wiggle at all when I try to move it around. The wonky behavior seems to happen just after waking from sleep or just after exiting an app.

The second time I went in for help with this problem, I got the same jerk I got the first time I went in and he basically sent me away without even looking at the phone. This issue is starting to ruin my experience with the phone. I may try tomorrow to bypass the Apple store and call Apple instead. I'm hoping if I explain to them how unhelpful the Apple store is being that maybe they'll help me out. It looks like this is my last possible recourse.
