iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

It is a hardware issue for sure. I had the same problem.

Took my iPhone to the Apple Store today with a Genius Appointment.

Told the Genius the issue, did not ask me to demo the problem to him, he never even checked the water sensors.

He looked up the serial number and said 'just in time, you only have 7 days warranty left, but will now get an extra 90 days on the replacement'. He then just gave me a new phone, no questions asked.

Must be a known issue, so they just swap the phones if it is raised by a customer.

If you are having Home Button issues get your iPhone 4's in for exchange NOW as warranty starts to run out on the first devices in the next week.

Excellent service from Apple, could not be faulted.

Try holding on to the power button, till u see slide to power off. Now release power button and press the home button at the pressure you would use on the home button. It should change to the icon springboard screen( with all the icons). It should work properly after that.

Took the advice from another discussion which i was trying to find. But try it anyway it worked for me. I suspect mine is a sofeware issue that made it seem like a hardware issue.

Try before sending it for repairs or replacement.

The home button in my iPhone 4 replaced just about a month ago works fine, but has dust right in the middle of the screen. I bought mine on 25th june which is Saturday coming, so I only have a few days of warranty left. In late july '10 I replaced my ip4 for the first time due to wiggly home button and dust underneath the glass near the home button.

Now I can see this little dot right in center of the screen with bright backgrounds, and it is not dead pixel.

I'm thinking about replacing it again :/ 3rd time :/

Just to add to the fray of potential approaches to this problem, I was having recurring issues as discussed above, and considered potential software issues related to the home button. I checked the Accessibility settings for Triple-click home on my iPhone 4. Mine was set to triple-click "Voiceover". I set this to "Off" and immediately the Home button responsiveness issue was resolved. I am not denying that this seems to be a hardware issue for some, and my fix could just be a sad coincidence, but worth a check. Time will tell.

I have the same issue with my iphone 4 home button. occasionally it stops working! It happened a couple of times now. The first time, I tried all recommendations I could possibly do from restarting to resetting all to default. I did not do any updates prior to the problem. Although many think (including me initially) its a software bug, I believe it is related to the hardware. I slapped the phone a couple of times against my thigh...and wala...it started working! This is a second time i tried this fix...and it worked both the times!

It can be due to any dust getting between the circuits. SO dont try breaking your head over updates and resetting; just try tapping your phone against your thigh a couple of times. Some have even tried to vacuum suck the dust off.
