iPhone 4, iOS 4
Toothbrush works great! :)
It is a hardware issue for sure. I had the same problem.
Took my iPhone to the Apple Store today with a Genius Appointment.
Told the Genius the issue, did not ask me to demo the problem to him, he never even checked the water sensors.
He looked up the serial number and said 'just in time, you only have 7 days warranty left, but will now get an extra 90 days on the replacement'. He then just gave me a new phone, no questions asked.
Must be a known issue, so they just swap the phones if it is raised by a customer.
If you are having Home Button issues get your iPhone 4's in for exchange NOW as warranty starts to run out on the first devices in the next week.
Excellent service from Apple, could not be faulted.
They don't repair the button, it is not something they can fix, they do an exchange.
Okay so you're sasying it's not a software problem, it's a hardware and the only fix it to get another iphone 4. What if you're out of your warranty, then what?
You can't be out of warranty yet as the iPhone 4 was not released at this time last year.
If you bought it on the day it came out you should have approx 5 days warranty left.
When did you buy it?
Try holding on to the power button, till u see slide to power off. Now release power button and press the home button at the pressure you would use on the home button. It should change to the icon springboard screen( with all the icons). It should work properly after that.
Took the advice from another discussion which i was trying to find. But try it anyway it worked for me. I suspect mine is a sofeware issue that made it seem like a hardware issue.
Try before sending it for repairs or replacement.
Ian Parkinson is right you have time. The earliest the warranty on your iPhone 4 could expire is the June 21st when it launched last year. If you bought it later you'll have more time. Also it is a mechanical defect. I went to my local Apple Store, the genius person did a diagnostic check and replaced my phone no questions asked.
The home button in my iPhone 4 replaced just about a month ago works fine, but has dust right in the middle of the screen. I bought mine on 25th june which is Saturday coming, so I only have a few days of warranty left. In late july '10 I replaced my ip4 for the first time due to wiggly home button and dust underneath the glass near the home button.
Now I can see this little dot right in center of the screen with bright backgrounds, and it is not dead pixel.
I'm thinking about replacing it again :/ 3rd time :/
Walked into the Apple store/genius bar, they did some brief diagnostics and swapped and gave me a new phone.
I did get this on iPhone4 launch day last year - wonder if this was a problem with the early batch?
Is everyone having problems one of the first to get when it was launched???
I bought my iPhone 4 in October 2011 in Germany.
And I have the same problem with the Home button - right now it works only if I push it on the left side.
Just to add to the fray of potential approaches to this problem, I was having recurring issues as discussed above, and considered potential software issues related to the home button. I checked the Accessibility settings for Triple-click home on my iPhone 4. Mine was set to triple-click "Voiceover". I set this to "Off" and immediately the Home button responsiveness issue was resolved. I am not denying that this seems to be a hardware issue for some, and my fix could just be a sad coincidence, but worth a check. Time will tell.
It is a hardware problem, that is why Apple Stores swap out phone with Home button problems straight away, no questions asked.
my button hasn't worked in the past day and a half. it just started to act up yesterday and even with the vacuuming nothing works so i'm hoping that apple replaces it when i get there because i live about an hour and a half from the nearest apple store which is in the states.
I replaced mine on Monday for the third time, only because there was dust right in the middle of the screen. My warranty runs out tomorrow. The phone was swapped with no problem. However, this unit is not 100% either. The corners of the screen are brighter than the rest. Really strange.
I have the same issue with my iphone 4 home button. occasionally it stops working! It happened a couple of times now. The first time, I tried all recommendations I could possibly do from restarting to resetting all to default. I did not do any updates prior to the problem. Although many think (including me initially) its a software bug, I believe it is related to the hardware. I slapped the phone a couple of times against my thigh...and wala...it started working! This is a second time i tried this fix...and it worked both the times!
It can be due to any dust getting between the circuits. SO dont try breaking your head over updates and resetting; just try tapping your phone against your thigh a couple of times. Some have even tried to vacuum suck the dust off.
