iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

Have you contacted Apple to find out from them what you should do since you are outside the US and nowhere near the US? This is just a user forum, so you will not get any Apple support here. Your best bet would be to contact them directly by submitting a support ticket, calling them, or by going through the Service and Repair support area here (under the Support tab) to see what you need to do. The carrier stores usually can't and will not help you. Sorry.

There are *NO* Apple stories here period. The retailers are required to honor apples guarantee because there are no stores here but they try to weasel their way out of it. I'm just wondering if there is any documentation of this home button issue to proove that it's a wide spread issue since it obviously seems to be.

Hey guys,

This might be an old thread but thought ill just share something which i did . To start off with I own an iPhone 4, which is out of warranty ( also replaced once during warranty period, for home button issue ) and again the home button is not responding as it should. So i tried the alcohol rubbing method and it was a temporary fix. I noticed that, the dust problem is mainly due to the use of screen protector ( in my opinion ). The screen protector I use has a hole slightly bigger than the home button and fits perfectly around it. When i tried the alcohol rubbing method i noticed that, the dust gets accumulated around the circumference of the hole of the screen protector around the home button. As a result when u press the home button the dust just gets in ( I'm just guessing ! I'm no expert 🙂 )making it unresponsive. So what I did was, i removed my screen protector and cleaned the home button with alcohol. Then i cut a small strip of transparent sellotape and stuck it on the home button so that it completely covers it.

To my surprise it worked ! My button is working flawlessly and responds every time i tap it. But its slightly stiff to press the button as the tape is covering it. But hey, the button works ( for me atleast 😉 ).

So i thought ill share this with you guys. Try it out ! And keep me posted.

Thanks and bye ! 🙂

It's not a waste of time. I got my phone replaced, the second time I went back.

It starts out as a software problem, but becomes a hardware problem. Informed "geniuses" know this. Many store employees, users, and other retailers don't know it. It's embarassing when you go to the store, and it works just then... but the company policy is to assume good intention, and try to satisfy the customer.

It IS a recognized hardware issue, but they need to see that you have taken certain steps:

1. Learn how to close all the apps on your phone. They all might be open... this is the source of the software part of the issue. If too many are open, the home button will begin not to respond.

2. They can track this... they will know if it's been done, it will show up in your account on their end: Do a full reset/restore of the phone. Google how to do it. They will know if you've done it.

3. If it persists after that, then go to the store, or call Apple and get a return authorization. Tell them what you've done, and that you've established that it's a hardware issue...

and, 4. Do it before the warranty expires!!

I was running on IOS 5.1 on iPhone 4. 70% of the times I faced an issue with the Home Button. Just updated my OS to IOS 5.1.1. Works like charm now.

By the way, an effective way to keep your iPhone fast as new is to keep flushing the open apps and save some processor memory. I do it manually today as I'm still looking for an app that would flush the open apps when I shutdown the device.

Yep im having that problem now with my 4 month old 3gs and when i click the home button once to quit an app it opens multitasking. Also my home button is starting to become unresponsive for example: I have to the press home button harder than before for it to register and it feels like there is something inside the home button because Ive noticed that when I press it at the top it feels like there is dirt or something in there and I tried using the microfibre cloth to get any dust or dirt that is trapped.

Also after time of using the home button I think it wears off through wear & tear but my iphone is only 4 months old.
