Q: iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

My replacement iPhone came in today. Man, even the replacement packaging is nice and well thought out. The button does feel a little more "clicky" and no problems so far.

bought an iphone 4 in october and about couple of months ago started having this issue. After digging through forums best explanation was there was some dust collecting. Bought compressed air and tried using a vacuum (yeah to suck the dust out) but it didn't help. Finally got fed up and got a replacement today, and it seems to be working better but will see if it stays this way.

I've had this issue on two separate iPhone 4s. The first one was exchanged for an unrelated issue but my 2nd one had this same issue after a few weeks of use.

My guess is it is software because I notice most often when I'm running an app.

Wow...19 pages and counting! I had the home button problem with my first AT&T iPhone 4, which I had from about June to September. I first noticed the problem in August. I got a replacement under warranty, and used it from about September to February. I restored it from my previous iPhone, and never had the home button problem. I now have the Verizon iPhone, which I've been using for about a week, and I restored this one from my previous iPhone, and again, I've not had any problems with the home button.

Did you get a new phone when you got a replacement? I have had this replacement phone for two days and started to get irritated with it. The screen seems to have a yellowish color to it, and I think it is a refurb, the serial starts with 5k. I am not happy with the replacement.

Yes, I did get a new phone by doing an advanced exchange through FedEx. The serial number started with 82.

    Hi,

I looked for the app "Free Memory" as suggested by a few members on this thread, but it no longer is available at the app store. Does anyone know any other app who does the same memory management?

I am really annoyed by this holy home buttom which does not do what I tell it to do!

    Thanks, guys.

I also am suffering with the same problem. My button responses 7 out of 10. A friend and I tried to compare it with his IP4 and says mine a lil hard to press sometimes. I hope it's a software issue that can be fixed with an update coz I can not wait more than a week to have my unit replaced.

The home button on my iPhone 4 would only work 90% of the time. After reading through these comments, I took it to the Apple Store. Wasn't sure if it would do it for the Genius, but after he used it for 30 seconds or so, he saw what I meant and they swapped it out for a new one.

It was a refurbished phone itself and was very laggy from the beginning. So it's great to have a fast phone again! (restored from the backup of the laggy unit)

Mine progressively had gotten worse after all. I did a factory restore, didn't put any apps on it, and it didn't help. I called AppleCare last week and they had me do a strange thing--hold the home button down while you plug it in to sync. It restored but it didn't help, the missing clicks which appear random continued.

I received the replacement yesterday, restored it with my original backup, and so far no issues with the home button. By now I should have at least seen it happen once but not yet. I will post back if I see any change but for now, no issues.
