Q: iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

Same here I got some issues with the Home button specially when you try the double click. It doesn't response well on my thumb. It always display the search window. I ask my co-worker to try it. He too got the same response.

When I bring it to Globe Telecom. One of the customer representative said it is okay but I still insist to have it serviced. I got a Nokia X2 for the meantime. It will take at least 3-4 weeks before they response to my problem. They didn't guarantee that they will replace my unit. I don't know if I happy in what they said. Im not sure if the problem is my thumb or index fingers.

I had the same issue before iOS 4.3. Like when I push the home button once, it acts as if I pressed it twice and brings up the recently used tray bar and vice versa. It kind of happens everyday, maybe once or twice. So after installing 4.3, the issue didn't go away, thinking it was a software issue but actually was a hardware issue. I took it to the apple store on Sunday. Got it replaced, and the problem is gone.

If it does annoy you, then go to the apple store and have them check it out. If you can live with it then, live with it.

De vacuuming solution didn't work for me either. That *****! (the stars say s*u*c*k*s)

After a couple of restores to ensure it really isn't a software problem I contacted T-Mobile (Holland) and they are replacing my iPhone this morning

This goes to almost everywhere else as well. Upon replacement they give you a Service Unit. Which can be brand new or refurb. As for a refurb, you can't really distinguish between them, as the exterior (frame, glass, battery) are brand new and are clean in the outside. Also not to mention that Apple tech do tests the Service Units more thoroughly then the brand new ones in the factory.

Good for you they gave you a service unit. For me, I bought a nokia phone just to cope up with the days when my phone is being serviced. It will take at least 3 to 4 weeks for the status of the phone and if they are not sure if they will replace it

Wow 21 pages and counting... Seems many people are having the same problem. As I read some of the comments, it really seems to be hardware issue. A normal wear and tear of a product but Apple better look for other vendors in proving raw materials for their home buttons. It hasn't been a year and yet the products are busted.

Good for you fossil, I bought mine in Singapore in Sept '10 and the only way for it to be repaired or replaced is getting it back there. Globe telecom has monopolized iPhone in PH and they won't accept repairs if it's not bought from them. Nor do Powermac accepts repairs of iPhones.

I'll just try vacuuming it perhaps... for now.

I think there's two separate problems as some people report the issue after a hardware replacement. For most, getting the hardware replaced works, the home button becomes responsive, and the problem is gone. For others, after some time, the new hardware has the same home button delay.

For me, I had the hardware replaced and now wonder why I put up with it for so long.

Yes Globe won't accept their other iPhone that were bought in HK or SG. I'm still waiting for their call if they will going to replace it. I really missed my iPhone.

This is almost as annoying as the screen issue last year when it wouldn't detect during a call and it would self-mute-dial-speaker-etc. This started happening to me after the 4.2 update and I hoped that it would be fixed with the 4.3 update. No such luck, rather it's worse. I took it to the Genius Bar and they did a restore as new which worked for a little while but didn't take long for the gremlins to return. It's embarassing to try to show people something on the phone and have to push the button several times to get a response and then it might not be the response that is desired. I double-click and it does nothing. I single click and it responds as if it was a double. I hit the home button 20 times and it does nothing. It's really aggravating. This is my third iPhone (original, 3GS and 4) and I've never had this many issues with the previous 2. This may be my last iPhone if this many issues becomes the norm; may need to find something I like that will be less costly to replace if needed. Not a happy thought but it's really not logical to carry around something that doesn't do what it's supposed to.

Try cleaning under the button with compressed air or a vacuum.

This issue is definately hardware, for a little while I was convinced it was software.

I got a replacement back in January for this issue, new phone worked perfectly. Past few weeks it started happening again, I thought it was software related (such as an app causing the issue) fresh restored and didn't use any apps for the day, still had the issue.

Rang up Apple, because I purchased extended apple care I didn't have to pay the £30 for the replacement service. UPS guy came to my house today (day after I rang up) and gave me my replacement and took my old one. Great service. New phone does not have this issue either, so it must be hardware.
