Q: iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

I have the same problem since updating to 4.3.2. It's getting really annoying. Hopefully apple comes up with a solution quickly.

@majorIP4: put your iPhone in dfu mode (Push homebutton and on/off button together exactly 10 seconds and than release the on/off without releasing the homebutton) iTunes will recognize the iPhone, but the screen of the IP must be black.

than select "restore as new iphone"...

    everything´s fine until now

I'm actually glad that others are having the same issues as me (not that its good), I only started noticing the problem with the menu button after upgrading. It is very frustrating, I do hope that this can be all resolved!

I have started to have the home button issue as well. Single click is a double click and at times the click does not register.

I did 2 restores and it seems like the problem is almost gone. I notice it most using what's app.

This is after I ungraded to 4.3.2 that the problem started. Seems to be a software related issue. Thing is we will know only if apple does mention this as a bug.

If you guys at apple are reading this  (which you most likely are) a fix would be a good idea.

Don't kid yourself. I got mine replaced yesterday at the Apple store. Genius didn't even try to recreate the problem. 5 mins later I had a new IP4. I asked the genius if I should just reload everything manually. She said No.... home button issue has nothing to do with the software. Trust me if this was anything other than a hardware issue they wouldn't be so easy to replace your units. Now the question is lint/dust/dirt getting into the home button area, or was/has there been a bad run of home buttons during manfacturing.

It's the hardware guys. A few of my friends, including myself, went to replace the set and we have no issues with the home button ever since..

If it was the hardware I only wonder that many people hold the bug is since 4.3.2.

At my own unit I cleaned the button with microfuse cloth and glass cleaner, and now the reaction seems to

be better. But it`s not really gone. I think I must send my unit back to apple when it`s not better after the next update....

Yes I have also faced it after upgrading to 4.3.2

Mine I have noticed get bad with what's app running

I have closeed it and its fine. Also during safari loading pages etc

Closing all the apps and I do not have the problem.

The single click working like a double click and opening the multiple task menu pushes It towards a software problem.

I have exactly the same problem since the very beginning, it used to occur once in a while; however day by day it has started to happen more frequently...now i'm on 4.3.2 and it happens 10 times in a day maybe!

I'm going to add another issue that is not mentioned by any of the people here, BESIDE HOME BUTTON, I'M HAVING EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY POWER/SLEEP BUTTON...ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE?

I mean sometimes both the buttons do double click instead of single click or at times the do not register at all.

Unfortunately i cannot request a replacement because i've purchased the iP4 while i was in Iran, and currently i'm living in Turkey...in none of these regions apple has a retail store, let alone the genius-bar !

This phone has a handfull of buttons (5 i think) and none of them work as they are meant to act !

I'm curious about that vacume thing...exactly where do you apply that stuff? the connection duct?

Anyway, any suggestions would be warmly welcomed

Got my iPhone 4 in June last year and I've had a problem with my home button since about 2 weeks in receiving phone. Doesn't matter which iOS firmware I use it's the still the same. Just been too lazy to do anything about it. I have now booked a Genuis appointment for Monday morning. It's now unresponsive most of the time now, thought I better get it sorted now as the year warranty is up in a couple of months.

My iPhone 4 acts exactly the same. Couple of other friends are also saying it happens to them, and we are still on 4.2.1!

I can't be bothered going to the apple store to replace the whole phone. I already replaced mine within the first two weeks (I bought mine on 25th june 2010) because of the wiggly home button!

This is insane! This home button changed my view of the whole iOS smoothness! It's not cool at all!

This is really frustrating. I think that this is a hardware issue..

...then again, what hardware-related-issue has got to do with a delayed response and not totaly unresponsive.?

    I'm not really sure now...

Well I went this morning, and they replaced the phone. All sorted now. Much much better. They swapped the phone without any problems. Hopefully this one won't have the same issue.
