Q: iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

Well I have now gone from having slight issues with the home button now and then... to... going to use my phone the other day and not being to turn the darn thing on! I ended up doing a reset (home button/off button). Also when in some applications, the iphone just shuts them down down. in the moiddle of me using them

... Very frustrating! Is the same for others? I have never dropped or done anything to the phone!!

Not at all, I've seen it in multiple iPhone 4 GSM models on the 4.1.x firmwares, it quieted down in the 4.2.x->4.3.x firmwares, and is back in force in 4.3.3. Exact same behavior across multiple handsets that were purchased at different periods of time since release. No way this is purely mechanical unless it's an overarching design flaw in the entire product line. :\

I reached the point where my home button woes were kind of making me nuts...I went to an apple store yesterday and the genius replaced my unit.  He asked if I had already tried a DFU restore which I had unsuccessfully.  The new unit seems to be much better, I havent had a home button miss yet.

Hi, I have not read al 27 pages so I mighthave missed something, I find the problem exceptionally irritating, I’m fromsouth Africa and for me to take the phone in to get repaired might take up totwo months. So the only solution that I have come up with is to slow down onpressing the home button, if you know what I mean. I fount, the moment that I pressthe home button fast its un responsive but when I slowly and meaning fullypress the button it works ok.

Yep, I know what you mean, pressing the home button slowly and with a bit more force worked for me for a while but it eventually just got worse.  I was hoping for some time that it was a software problem, however the new unit seems to have fixed the problem.  We'll see if it stays fixed.

I've had the same issue as well.  Upgraded from 4.3.1 to 4.3.2 hoping to solve the issue.

Did not correct the home button issue.

I nuked the phone, put it into DFU mode, and did a restore to 4.3.2. Then restored my data from backup.

Did not correct the home button issue.

I've upgraded to 4.3.3 (after it came out).

Did not correct the home button issue.

I rebooted the phone and my home button worked for 5 minutes, then the issue returned.

I have no rhyme or reason as to what triggers the button from working to not working.

I finally got a new device from apple because of this bug!

I`m very happy that this unit do not have this issue,

so I would say it`s hardware and not software!

The feeling on this new phone pressing the button is completely different

    to the old phone...

That's what I experienced as well. This replacement is a 100x better than the my original phone. Just have lightly press the home button now and it responds correctly, I used to have to press quite hard before it done anything.
