Q: iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

    Hi Rashid

I tryed you solution and it worked for all of 2seconds. Sorry man. But i have spoken to a apple technition and a independent consultant doing iphone repairs. Both confirmed there is a problem.

The question is do i take the phone in to get it repaired by apple and wait 4 to 8 weeks. Or do i pay $ 112 to get it fixed in 15 min. But the independed consultant.

What to do. What to do ?

    Hi,

Well there is possibility that there is more than one bugs, and different persons are having different issues. I read some ppl got rid of this issue by switching on camera.

But I also read that switching on Airplane Mode fixes issue, so I still think it has to do with WiFi or 3G. Try switching on and off wifi. Bcuz this always helps me.

Well, I am really anxious to know how these guys are fixing it permanently in 15 min, do they have some fix they do to iOS?

Hmmm very strange!! I also had this problem for over a month now....

Till i went last week to Turkey by Airplane. (from Netherlands to Turky).,... After a 3 hour flight i found my homebutton functioning properly again!! Something to do with airpressure??? Very strange!

So does a trip by airplane fix this issue??

    Hi

I recently went overseas with the phone on the plane and it made no difference.

The safari option did work for me. but i have a feeling it might mot be the solution.

    Thanks

Just started having this issue over last few weeks.

Upgraded to 4.3.3, still have issue.  Comes and goes, very frustrating.

Read a message a few threads up about disabling WiFi, did that and PRESTO, home button works perfectly.  I kind of need WiFi for some of my apps (screen sharing, printing, etc), but for now, I am going to leave off and see if this continues and hopefully Apple Fixes soon.

I started having this issue since around 4.2.1.

I replaced my phone week and a half ago and it seems much better if not perfect.

I am having the same issue . This problem just started few weeks back.

4 out of 10 time the home button is unresponsive .

    It's running on 4.0.2

I'll appreciate if anyone could reply probable solution for this problem .

I came to india , iPhone 4 is not officially launched here so I cant take it to apple store.

So probably if it's a hardware problem , I cant fix it.

    Thank you .

Yes, disabling the WiFi has fixed the home buttom issue on my iPhone 4. I have the lasted fireware 4.3.3. The home buttom issue has started, maybe 3-4 weeks ago after one of the update.

It sounds like a software bug.

I started having this issue a few months ago.  The home button intermittently does not work when you push it. Sometimes it would work fine and other times I would have to push it 4 or 5 times to get it to respond.    I took it to the Apple store tonight and the genuis bar immedialtely replaced it.  The guy said that the home button and on/off switch at the top are the first things that usually stop working on the phones.  This is the 3rd iPhone i've had (original, 3G and 4) that developed hardware issues around the 1 year mark.  So much for thinking Apple had products that "just work"

    Thys,

Did the Apple tech or consultant say what the problem with the home button is? Is it dirt/dust collecting under the button or defective button hardware?

i am having serious issues with my home button for the last while and it is doing my nut in. i have tried turning off wifi and things and nope.

i am not sure i want to go to the hassle of contacting apple to check they will repair, sending it off for repair, waiting a couple weeks with a crappy phone, then getting it back/a new one. i went through all that when i had only had the phone a month and it turned itself off for no reason and wouldn't come back on again.

i am considering not bothering and just buying a new phone, i am just not sure if i do that, and take the sim out of the iphone, can i still access the apps and music (ie using it kinda like an itouch?)

    Add me to the list.

My iPhone 4 has also started having problems with the home button in the past few weeks and it has now gotten to just beyond the mild annoyance stage and turned in to a real annoyance. My guess is that this is a hardware issue. The tough part is that I live 65 mils from the nearest Apple Store.

Guess I have until June 22nd to make the drive and hope they'll replace it on the spot.

I personally hope they find a good way to modernize this button in the future and just make it a virtual touch sensitive area(s).
