Q: iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

Do you happen to you? Do you think that is better if I change my phone? Because this problem annoying me too. I've solved partially the PS issue by restoring the 4.1 iOS. My iPhone is two months old.

My Home button has started acting up within the last month also. I've been running 4.0.1 for a while and just updated to 4.1 but the problem persists.

Also, as another poster stated, my vibrate function somethings doesn't work either.

I'm hoping that this is software related and that an iOS update will take care of it because it it VERY annoying to say the least!

Went to the Genius Bar to complain about the wonky home button, and my slow WiFi performance on every base station. He did not give me a hard time and swapped it out for another one.

The button issue seems to be gone (indicating a hardware issue) but the slow WiFi issue remains...

I have the same problem. If your see in other forum this a common problem.
    Similar issue.

Pressing the home button doesn't register and need to press it again, OR

Pressing the home button once appears to register as a double-click; the multitasking icons appear and the screen slides up

Happens maybe once out of every 10 presses - either the non-register or the double register.

Do you guys still having the same problem?

My first iPhone 4 had this problem. It started happening about a month after purchasing it. I would click once and sometimes it would register as a double-click OR, because I have my accessibility options on triple-click, one click or two would register as three. Sometimes a double would act as one and so on. I restored from back up and problem persisted, I tried Set up as New, and it still happened. I thought it was hardware so I got it replaced. I restored from back up with this new phone and after a week or so, the problem came back. I got this 2nd one replaced 2 days ago, set up as a new phone and just today it brought the problem back again.

All these phones were on 4.1, so I think it might be software, unless I just have really bad hardware luck....

I'm running 4.0.1 and have had this issue for the last month or so (phone purchased 90 days ago) Single clicks register as doubles; doubles as singles; and sometimes a click will not register at all. Happens numerous times per day. My view- bad hardware. The act of double clicking fast to get multi task is ruining the home buttons on the iPhone 4. Button can't handle the pressure and wear of the double click, thus after repeated use it goes bad. That's why issue is occurring on phones after 60-120 days of use.

    Apple knows it undoubtedly.

Better to activate multi task with press and hold of button for a second.
If that's possible. Less wear and tear on button mechanism.

I sure hope it's not hardware... That would not be good. The home button should be able to handle the use and we shouldn't have to be concerned about how we use it. We'll see what happens when the new iOS comes out. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

    I think it's the hardware.

I got an exchanged phone and it does not exhibit the behavior. It does now, however, have a mushy top button.

Can't Apple use high-quality mechanical switches?
