Q: iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

just came back from the apple store.

the genius was going to replace my phone w/o question. But it was going to be one of the those phones from the "black box". When asked if they were new phones, she said that they are but apple sends these "new" replacement phones in black boxes as to recycle them. That is, they send the defective iphones back to apple in those black boxes.

I didn't really buy it, but it might be true. Regardless, there is no way to tell if they are brand new iphones. I just decided to stick with my iphone. Looking at the bright side, its not like if the home button acts up all the time.

    Wrong.

I've replaced my ip4 3 times since June last year. They were all brand new and there IS a way to check it, but I'm not allowed to discuss this here.

    Homeboy? ***?

And no, I'm not talking about the "whole serial number thing" (whatever that is).

why i dont think its stupid at all. as i said before, its a nuance that isnt enough validation for me to exchange for a refurb. other than this issue, my phone functions like a dream. I dont feel like ive gotten my money's worth out of this phone yet to exchange it. Maybe after october if other issues arise then i wouldn't hesitate exchanging it.

the guy that the genius helped out before me was complaining of this similar reason for exchanging his "few weeks old" brand new iphone for a refurb, and i can understand why.

Don't know what you're on about, but every time I replaced mine I got a brand new ip4. Two of my friends replaced theirs for the very same reason and they also got brand new ip4s. That's in UK.

Okay, some feedback a week after the "magical button calibration procedure" - despite appearances to the contrary, it doesn't seem do anything at all. My button stopped responding again, I've tried "calibrating" it a hundred times and while it seems to come alive for a while after the supposed procedure, the issue returns rather quickly.

So I tried something else I've read in another thread: the alcohol rubbing technique. And guess what - it DOES work!

Moist your thumb in a little alcohol (just a couple of drops) and press+rub the button for a minute or so in a circular motion. Afterwards, clean the excess outside, leave it off for a while to dry completely and voilá... it becomes flawless.

Give it a try and let me know what you think. This seems to be it, which supports the (very plausible) theory that this is all due to dust and dirt accumulation under the button.

Just to add to this... I had the same problem and got a replacement near the end of last year. Now in the last couple of weeks the problem is pretty much back where it was before. I think I shall try the alcohol trick.
