iTunes 10.0.1.22 - no column browser for iPod touch 4G ?

Hi,
got my ipod touch 4G 64GB today, installed latest iTunes 10.0.1.22 and been frustrated. iTunes library could activate column browser, column browser could also be activated for my old iPod video but not for the new touch. CTRL-B is greyed out and "Activate column browser" could not be selected.

What i'm doing wrong ?
Is this a bug ?
Can anyone confirm ?

Thx.

The solution is in iTunes, though not very obvious:

1. Connect your iPod to your computer and start iTunes.

2. Select Devices > <your iPod> then click the Summary tab.

3. Scroll down to Options.

4. Check 'Manually manage music and videos'.

5. Click Sync.

Done—Column Browser for your device in iTunes is now available (or should be available…).

N.B.: iTunes 10.5.2 (11), Mac OS X 10.7.2, iOS 5.0.1.

It's absurd that one should have to erase their iPhone in order to organize a track list on a different system.

When I am connected to my home computer the "Manually manage" checkbox is checked; however, this doesn't seem to matter if I connect to my work computer... it remains unchecked. Thus, the only way to move forward is to erase the very content I wish to access so I can "sync" with another computer... even if I don't want to sync at all.

Surely Apple can fix this issue, no? Is piracy such a concern that the mere ability to organize a database on someone else's computer is considered a liability?

Negative... once I try to leave the page on which one may set the iphone to manual, it requires that I either: a.) erase and sync with the computer I'm on or b.) cancel. If I cancel, I'm back to square one. If I sync and erase, I've negated the reason I wanted to go to manual in the first place... to browse my music in an orderly fashion.

It's strange as I have my iPhone set to manual already (via my macbook pro at home). However, as soon as I plug it into a different system, it seems to no longer be set as such.

Note that I'm not using the Windows version of iTunes in this situation but rather the Mac version... perhaps this work-around only works on the Windows version?

Can any other Mac users reproduce this issue with their iPhones? Anyone else having this problem?

I am using Mac version too, although I am using iPod Touch, not iPhone - so perhaps that is the reason....

At home I set the iPod to sync, but i disabled almost all options (except music)

Then at work I discovered this 'no browser' issue. Came to this page & followed drav18's suggestion of ticking 'manually manage' & the keyboard shortcuts. That worked for me.

Now I am back home, I connected the iPod & the browser is there automatically.
