Wake/Sleep Button Will Not Work

Hey,

I just received a brand new iPad for my birthday yesterday. Unfortunately, it does not appear that my Wake/Sleep button responds to my touch. I have tried pressing it once as well as pressing it and holding it down. Neither attempt worked, however.

How should I fix this problem?
