Find a contact by phone number

Given a 9 digit phone number (e.g. 123-456-7890), how can I find out who it belongs to in my contact list, other than than by manually opening each one and going through their numbers?

Is there an automated way, a search by phone number?

The iPhone search (Home screen, swipe to the right) failed to find the contact as did the Contacts app.
