Battery indicator not accurate?

I know a lot of people are having battery draining problems since os4, and I too have had problems with that. However, a new battery problem seems to have developed. My iPhone keeps dying without notice when the battery indicator says I am somewhere between 50-65% power left. When I try turning it back on I get the empty battery symbol and will not turn on untill I plug it in. Once plugged in it starts right up and again shows battery life still between 50-65.

I have reset the phone several times. I was able to get it to drain to 20% by not touching it for hours (if I tried doing anything with it below 50% it would shut off), then fully recharged it. Like I mentioned before I have fast draining issues also. I've tried all the battery saving tips with little help. Anyone know what is going on with my phone?

There is a longer thread about this in the 3GS forums. Battery calibration will not help, even if you can get it to drain all the way down and charge back up.

Mine started shutting off each time with the battery reporting about 30%, still does it. You aren't alone with this problem. Call Apple to report it, even if out of warranty. They need to hear about everyone having these exact same issues suddenly.

For me, it started on 4.0.1 and rapid draining started with 4.1.

Still not fixed as of 4.2 beta 2 so I am not hopeful Apple is addressing this...
