convert Canopus to AVI

Hello everybody,
I want to know what program do I need to read and convert a Canopus file to avi (to use with Final Cut Pro) in Powerbook G4 with Leopard?

Final Cut Pro does not work with avi files. You need to convert to a Quicktime file and a codec that FCP can work with. To convert the file use MPEG streamclip.

Exactly, I made a mistake, is Canopus to .mov or anything that could be read by FCP.
I receive the Canopus files and I have to convert them into somethig that FCP could read, like .mov. Do you know any program to do that?

What EXACTLY are the kinds of files you received? Not just the extension. .mov is just a wrapper around a file. That file has many properties including codec, frame rate, and pixel size.

I gave you a link to a free application for converting files and a step by step tutorial on how to convert files for FCP. Did you even look at the information I provided?

Hi again,
I have read the article you sent me (you were very nice), and I tried with that program, but I have a problem there:
The movie does not show, but the audio works just fine.
I do not know how to convert these files. The files are made in PC with canopus, I do not know what other features have the files.
If you can help me with that, I would apreciate it very much, because I feel lost...

Do you have flip4mac installed? You should. There are different versions. The free download is what you need. Install that then see if Quicktime will play it.

Hi, I have installed already, and I tried QT, but still does not work.
It says that need another compliments or something like that.
Do you know if there is a program like canopus, but for mac?

I think That's the Canopus-HQ from famous Grass Valley.
Don't you guys know EDIUS?
Most high cost performance pro-sumer editing software. If you don't need color-grading or motion effects.
But only for windows.
Canapus-HQ is like ProRez for AVI using with EDIUS.
You need to convert it to Quicktime on Windows Canopus-HQ installed.

If this is Canopus HQ, as suggested by thezen, you are trying to use a proprietary codec that will only work on the Canopus system which is PC-only. You must ask whoever supplied you the files to export them using Quicktime or to use a non-proprietary file format and codec. Or you myust locate a PC-based Canopus or Edius system.

Yes, I guess that is the thing, I cannot convert that in a mac...
