Can't start in single-user mode
I'm in Seattle; the iMac (G3, slot-loading, with Panther, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse) is my mother-in-law's in New York.
Her iMac starts to boot, and gets as far as the blue background with the colored spinning beach-ball state, but then the iMac stays in that state, for hours. I think that the underlying problem is that the file permission are in some unusable state. She had been changing the file-sharing settings before rebooting and getting stuck.
She has tried to start the iMac in single user mode by holding down Command-s after pressing the power button, but this does not seem to change the state of the iMac.
Should she try again with a wired keyboard and mouse? Other suggestions?
Thanks,
Drawyah
