Using Yamaha Motif 8 on G.Band 1

I am trying to use my Yamaha Motif 8 in Garage Band.
I can get it to work, but it only plays limited Garage Band effects.

Also, when playing on Motif 8, its not quite as loud over the Imac
as it is when I bring up a G.Banb keyboard and click one of those keys with my mouse.

I'd really just like to play all the Motif 8's effects in G.Band.

Is there maybe a more up to date version or another program I need?

IMAC, Mac OS X (10.3.9)

How do you have it connected to your Mac?

What do you mean by GB Effects? Do you mean GB instruments?

This is confusing. Are you trying to record sound shte Motif makes, OR are you trying to play GB instruments?

-- I have an input and an output from my "Motif 8" keyboard.
Those two end merge into one end that plugs into the Mac.

--- Yes, Garage Band instruments. I'd like "Motif 8" instrument sounds to come through Garage Band.

--- I'm not trying to play GB instruments.
I'm trying to get GB to let me play "Motif 8" instruments and effects. When playing Motif 8 instruments, I would like to record when ready.

I think you have a misunderstanding of what MIDI and Audio are.

The way you are connecting your keyboard you can not play GB instruments. You need to connect via MIDI to play GB instruments.

To record the sounds that your keyboard is making (and this is the way you have hooked it up), you need to create a Real Track. Select New Basic Track, hit record, and start playing your keyboard.

O.K.
I see in the Motif 8 owner maual, when hooking up to a computer ,
"The USB interface can only be used for tranfering of midi data.
No audio data can be tranfered."

It shows other options of hooking to a computer.

1. Using an USB device.
(which I think is how mine is now.)

2. Using IEEE1394 interface (when optional mLAN8E has been installed).

3. Using the computers' midi interface, but shows an in&out at the computer as well as the Motif 8.

4. Using an external midi interface.

Does this help?

I still don't understand what you wan to do. Earlier you said you wanted to do two contradictory things, Play GB's instruments, and record the Motif's sounds.

To play GB's instruments you need a MIDI conection and you create a Software Track.

To record your keyboard's sounds you need to plug the Line-Out (or headphone-out) from the keyboard into the Line-In on your computer, or the audio in on an audio interface, and you create a Real Track.
