No Volume Control on new Apple TV

Just bought a new Apple TV, but one thing is realllllllyyy bothering me. I noticed i can't control the volume of it via, apple remote that comes with the product or via Remote app for my iphone and ipad... Really *****.... I have to use my TV remote for that. Am I missing something here or did they take that feature out, cause I was able to on my old apple tv. Also If i stream music to it from my mac i can't stop the music using regular remote.. Just pain in the butt and inconsistencies...

Anyone ?

It's amazing isn't it; Apple actually fixed this on the previous Apple TV and have left it out from this one so far. As you say, it is REALLY annoying...

Haven't got mine yet, but on the old one you had to enable it in Settings menu and it only worked for music/music videos (and perhaps podcasts).

Amazing if they've left that feature out though.

Only work around I've found is using my Harmony 890 universal remote. Trick it to think it's viewing TV with a receiver/amp doing audio. Only annoying thing is my TV menu pops up every other time I push menu on the Harmony. The TV thinks it's talking to it. Push menu again and it goes away.

BUT, pretty bad miss for Apple to not have their remote do volume. I'm a Mac purist, but seriously guys, no volume? Figure it out.

The manual says clearly in the remote section that the remote won't control volume.

Yes I think this is silly. I was previously using an old PowerBook g4 running front row attached to the tv. You could use the volume on the rowmote to control that volume. Why not for thenew apple tv?

The difference is that in front row mode, the sound output and the volume are coming from the same Apple device, (the Mac.) With Tv, the sound output is coming from a third party device (either the tv or receiver.) Playback devices connected to tv's or receivers rarely control the volume.. i.e. Vcr's, DVD players, Blu-ray players, DVR's, Gaming systems, Tv's..
