It's tough enough to obtain versions 4.7 to 5 out on the web. Apple does not archive and make available legacy versions (to my knowledge). User uploaded file

Some if us maintain our own legacy copies of iTunes and the iPod Updater installer software, but my versions only go back to v4.7 or 4.6.

Not sure if anyone has such an old version. Getting it to you may also be an issue.

How about iTunes replacement programs? Some of them may operate on Win98.

Try: 3rd Party iPod/iTunes Software for Windows

For just synchronizing music tracks with your iPod, you could get third-party utility such as....
Anapod Explorer
XPlay
EphPod
vPod
....for handling the music transfer (Google for them and others). Some may not work with your OS, some might. Anapod Explorer will work with 98SE.

Sorry, Red.

As has been stated, iTunes never worked with any version of 98. The first Windows release in October 2003 needed XP or 2000.

Contrary to popular theory, there was iTunes for Windows before 4.7 In fact, the first version was 4.1.1. Here's a link to the archived page at Archive.org (with which I have no connection financial or otherwise. I just like the Wayback Machine):

http://web.archive.org/web/20031202014702/www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Note the specs:
iTunes 4.1.1 is available for Windows XP and Windows 2000.

Sorry.

Here's the wayback for Apple. Go for it. Never has been, but feel free to look at each and every one. The one for the initial Windows release is October 23, 2003. Before that iTunes was MAc OS only.

You can also search these discussions and see that there is not a single instance of anyone saying that there was a version that is no longer available that worked on anything other than XP or 2000.

Sorry, you need to upgrade if you want to use iTunes. End of story 😉

So I was bored and a bit nostalgic. I went back and found the archived page for the introduction of iTunes (dated Dec. 19, 2000):
http://web.archive.org/web/20010214003057/www.apple.com/itunes/

Here's the download page with the system requirements for the original version:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010213201630/www.apple.com/itunes/download/

System requirements:

Works with all new systems from Apple introduced in January 2001.
Also works with all Apple systems released in August 1998 or later.
Requires Mac OS 9.0.4 or later; Mac OS 9.1 recommended.
Internal Apple CD-RW drive required to create custom CDs.

hope this helps you find what you are looking for.

You really don't get it, do you? I feel sorry, but will try one last time before I take this one out of my checklist:

There is not, nor has there ever been a version of iTunes for Windows that has run on anything other than XP or 2000.

I know this because I downloaded the first version that ran on Windows the first day it was released and then downloaded every subsequent version the day they were released.

I really can't make it any clearer. What you are looking for does not now, nor has it ever existed. The only way to get iTunes to run on your Windows computer is to get out of the 20th century and upgrade to Windows XP.

End of Story.

That's not the only feature of Archive.org I use. I'd been hitting the wayback for a while when CoJeff turned me on to the Live Music Archive at the same place. A great chance to relive some concerts I had the pleasure of attending.

My forehead is sporting a wonderful new trend in Body Modification: the brick inlay. Must seek out aspirin 😉

where can i get the old itunes for windows 98se??
