Backup Restore from Iomega NAS (password problem)

Hi,

I cannot access to my Iomega Multimedia Network Hard Drive. When booting the System with the Installation DVD I can successful connect to my Wifi Network and find my NAS.

But then OSX requires a Username and a password for the connection with my NAS. To be honest, I have no idea what username/password combination is needed.

My OSX profile combination does not work and the one I use to have usual access to the NAS also fails..

What the **** is needed? Is it the root passwort?? Any idea what to do?

Thks for help!!!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

That's the downside to using a NAS for Time Machine backups. 😟

I'm assuming you've tried the +Connect to Remote disk+ option on the +Select a Backup Source+ window? See step (c) in #14 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

I've never used one, but apparently, when you set up the NAS, you specified a password for it that was put in your keychain or somewhere else on your system. When you boot from a different source, that password is not available. And while booted from the Install disc, you probably can't specify one.

You may want to contact the maker of the NAS to find out how to do a full system restore.

Otherwise, you may have to install OSX, set up a temporary Admin user account (named differently from any on your backups), then use +Migration Assistant+ to transfer your apps, user accounts, and data. See: Using Migration Assistant.

Hey, I have the same problem with an iomega Home media drive. I finished up accessing everything as a guest on my imac and then just logged on one day without any username or password info. It says I'm fully connected now though! According to the literature the drive works as an iTunes server and time capsule but when setting trying to set up the time capsule through system preferences it can't find the drive as it's looking for an 'airport device' apparently. Anybody got any info/ideas on that one?

Really? You're having trouble doing a full system restore?
