HDMI Handshake problems every 20 - 30 minutes - Color Inversion Issue

I live in Italy. Apple support says it's a software problem

So there's nothing to do before before there is a update?

That *****! Especially when they released a thunderbolt update in the last days of Snow Leopard.

And the problem haven't been fixed in version 10.7.1. Actually none of the problems I had with Lion has been fixed with this release. I can't even describe have frustrated i am right now. The developers know about the problem!

fyi, both Apple and Philips know about this..

I opened up a bugreport at Apple, I got a request from the engineering team at Apple to return/debug some values running a snooping timer app which I did on Aug 3rd

I also opened up a bugereport with Philips and gave them both eachother's bug ID's so they can work it out together..

No update on this yet, but they absolutely both know about it and are hopefully looking into the issue..

It's not like this problem is news to them. It's been there since the Macbook Pros came with thunderbolt (That is a long time ago!) And nothing has happened. I have to say, I am really diasppointet by Apple in this case. Mac OS X is no longer the operating system with few fails. Lion has so many issues!!

Yeah except the problem is that with a forum thread where a lot of people are (understandably) yelling "It's not working" isn't very helpful in a tech/debug kind of way...

So to make sure I supplied both Philips and Apple with as much tech info, reports, ID's and test-cases on how to reproduce as possible..

There's nothing else to do than wait now.

In the mean time I'm waiting for my HDMI To 5 RCA Component AV Converter to arrive..

About $50 on E-bay, will downscale the image to 720p due to the limitations of the YPbPr input of the Philips TV I use, but at least better then the inverted green screen due to HDCP handshakes (since YPbPr is analog)

So hopefully that will be a stop-gap solution until the real issue is resolved

I have a Philips TV 47PFL5604H/12 with ATV2.

I am having the same problem after 15-20 minutes.

The picture turns Green and Pink.

Apple please solve the problem - it's written in the ATV2 spec it supports Philips TV's.

I have the same problem with my macbook pro and a Philips (using hdmi miniport). I´ve tried several hdmi adapters and cables. It work just fine when I tried it on both samsung and LG.

Will solve your problems until the bug is ironed out by Apple and/or Philips

causes a loss of audio or video?

Well, I use the audio from the mini's S/PDIF port to an amplifier, so I don't use the red/white connectors for the sound. Can't tell you what the loss there is.

The image is slightly off color-wise but if you use your mini as a media center it's hardly noticable. I did notice an occasional square fractal.

So the image isn't as clear and crisp as a true HDMI throughput, you're converting the signal to analog after all (so keep the YPbPr cable as short as possible for quality reasons), but it's 20x better then the random pop to a green inverted screen.

Also, I had to move the screen a little to make it fit the TV perfectly and use the overscan bar in the display preferences to make the image a little smaller.

So yes, there's absolutely a little loss in quality, but it's still 1080p HD (may vary for your TV set though, Philips told me it was limited to 720p through component, while it turns out to work fine on 1080p in the end) without any nagging HDCP handshake problems.

My "interruptions" were in the home sharing side of things... airplay of music, itunes movies form my own collection, etc

AppleTV was saying that I had current software...

I just (9/21/11) ran a full "Restore System" on the Apple TV... which by default also fetches current software update.

Today no issues with dropout.

Another suggestion for some users: AIrFoil by Rogue Amoeba Software. Great little app for streaming music around the house to almost any device

Add me to the list I get the Magenta using Snow leopard on a new Thunderbolt Mini using HDMI To HDIM monitor is new Vizio 26 Razor LED-LCD. Works in Lion but not SL. Need SL to access QB files.
