Oct 15, 2010 2:41 AM in response to draper3000by KeithJenner,It's interesting that you get the problem with your 401 but I don't with a 403. I assumed previously that it was the 400 spec that was OK, but perhaps it's the last digit that matters (3 seems OK but 1 and 2 aren't).
Whatever, this does seem to affect a high number of Sony and Philips TV's. Given that I think that a solution will have to be found pretty quick, either by Apple or the TV manufacturers. -
Oct 15, 2010 2:57 AM in response to Arcade99by draper3000,just out of interest, what length HDMI are you using on your 403?
I've got a 2 metre HDMI....
(My wife always says size does not matter of course...) -

is the options button on the apple tv remote? or one that comes with the tv? -
Oct 15, 2010 3:42 AM in response to draper3000by KeithJenner,I'm using a cheap Amazon basics 2m cable. All of my equipment is connected using the same cable type (except for the Sky box which came with its own). I think we can safely conclude from the comments on this thread that the cable isn't the problem. -
Oct 15, 2010 6:52 AM in response to KeithJennerby behra,I experience exactly the same issue. I have a Philips 37PFL9604H with latest firmware. -
Oct 15, 2010 11:32 AM in response to Arcade99by Oli__K,Dear all,
I´ve bought the new Apple TV and have exact the same HDMI Handshake Problem, after 10 Days of using. This is an Apple TV Problem, that exsits since the last years. You can "google" that My Samsung LED TV is very new 2010 and I´ve tested many HDMI Cables. It´s all the same problem. When I restart the Apple TV, than everything is okay, but I´ve to reconfigure the whole Apple TV. Samsung says that Apple have to solve that HDMI Handshake Problem...! Apple says: "there are not enough Afflictions". So please Apple...do something. Thank you. -
Oct 15, 2010 11:35 AM in response to steve_acpby Oli__K,ahh okay thank you the Information. Than I wait for an Update -
Oct 15, 2010 12:04 PM in response to Arcade99by Rabbit_Samson,I am not so sure this is an Apple TV issue. I recently bought 3 PHILIPS 9604's and have been plagued with their temperamental ability to find sources - 'No Video Signal' is a constant refrain. I have one linked to a Denon 1911 AV Receiver with two Blu-Ray players and I have been close to throwing something out of the window because of the 'No Video Signal' every time you try to watch another machine. I bought Apple TV yesterday - it didn't pick up at first, but then did. Great. Tonight = F&*% all. But Philips TV WON'T pick up the other Blu Ray either. I've just come off a Philips forum where the blame is firmly placed at their door for their premium sets' inability to find HDMI sources. And it's not just Apple but anything connected through HDMI. Frustrated? Livid might cover it. I have three premium TV sets and none of them can get round the idea of reading what's connected to them.
Any advice on how to encourage a handshake appreciated. -
Oct 15, 2010 12:11 PM in response to Rabbit_Samsonby Oli__K,look what "steve_acp postet 14.10.2010 (Side 8)":
"Apple say that they will issue a firmware fix for Apple TV 2, until then this work around is not ideal, but rmoves the frustration of changing channel to cure the problem."
So we´ve to wait, but it seems it´s really an Apple Problem. -

Oct 15, 2010 8:21 PM in response to dwagner1270by lineout,Well I figured I may as well add my 2 cents to the discussion.
I have a 6 year old Philips 32PF9966, which works flawlessly with other HDMI equipment, even the 1st gen ATV. When I plug in the 2nd gen ATV I get a magenta/purple picture which doesn't fill the entire screen (black borders around all four sides).
I've tried a restore twice with no luck.
Apple you are really trying my patience. Fix it now please. -
Oct 16, 2010 1:38 AM in response to lineoutby greenlotus7,For the information...
It happens with a Sony Bravia KDL-40S5500 as well. -
Oct 16, 2010 5:08 AM in response to dwagner1270by Super cow,Same problem for me.
New Apple TV in combination with Philips LED tv.
After a while a get a green screen. Still see the movies but green.
Sometimes it disappear it self.
Othertimes I have to put ATV in standby and start again.
Time when it happens differs.
I hope this is a software issue and it get resolved!
